I figure I'm going to have some time to burn, so I'm bringing the 8.5' Ugly with the saltwater reel (most likely 65lb. braid) and maybe a few swim baits. Any suggestions on what to use to yank a couple of calico out of the kelp just for fun?

I went down to Malaga cove/torrance beach yesterday morning. Primary reason was to ask check the lifeguard towers to see if anyone turned in a cressi gara professional fin that I lost two weeks ago. As exected, no such luck. So i did a little snorkelling, and stepped on a GD stingray as i was getting in. Sliced up my big toe pretty good. As i was heading out, I looked around the shore area more carefully, and saw at least 20 stingrays buried in the sand, 3-5 feet of water. They were everywhere! Booties and much care are strongly advised if you plan on entering the water near there! I had no idea how common they were near shore around there!

I also saw a large bat ray flying through the kelp, was pretty cool to see.

The place was beautiful! Too bad the conditions weren't as.
After the 9 hour drive...which was nuts...we arrived at 6:30 am, and were in the water by 7:30.
Cloudy, no sun, a little surge, 3 feet surface visibility, and around 6-7 feet viz at the bottom. I was able to get my limits my first time ab diving :thumps:
the next day, the conditions got worse. visibility i could barely see my own hands, and at the bottom the surge was so strong i couldn't stabilize myself to pick any abs. i ended up throwing up in the water and not getting any that day :(
All in all a good trip, its so much easier diving with just an ab knife than carrying a gun around :)

I will upload pics once i get them from my friend. thanks for reading :)

I am like 6 foot and pretty skinny (hence the sissiness and getting cold), does anyone know of a wetsuit company that makes talls? I have a Riffe 5mil right now and they have been the only company I have been able to find that makes tall... And I want to find a different company. I think I wear a 50tall in their suit.

Thanks. I put this in the CA section because I'd like to be able to try it on before I buy it for obvious reasons.

Hey Guys
This suit is my first open cell dive suit although I had an open cell surf suit years ago and never had any issues. I got this suit at the beginning of the season and all seemed fine. The suit is awesome and I regretted not getting one open cell suit sooner. About half way through the season I got a bad ear infection. I was not wearing earplugs. Turns out it was a skin infection in my ear. Never had anything like it very painful though. After a visit to the doc and a week later I was fine.

shortly after this I started noticing sores popping up in my arm pits two to three days after diving. They were kind of like an ingrown hair. At first I thought it might be the soap mix I am using to get in the suit. So I switched to conditioner then to baby soap. Did not seem to help much. I noticed I would get them popping up all over my body too. Not like a rash but maybe a dozen besides the arm pits where there would be a lot.

I looked up rubber allergies as I thought this could be it. I have never had problems with rubber or any latex products so this seemed odd. None of the symptoms fit what I have so don't think thats what it is. The only two things I have left to what it could be is clogged pores which matches the arm pit thing from what I found on line but weird all over. Or possibly but not likely a reaction to the titanium oxide silver lining on the suit but as its not a itchy allergy rash I doubt this.

Any one have similar problems or knows what it could be and how to prevented with out changing suits.

This morning at 1100, we fired up the offset smoker. Surprisingly, today was sunny and beautiful, a complete rarity in Humboldt County.
Knowing how long each cut of meat should be smoked is key. While most people use weight to judge cook time, thickness is really the most important. At five pounds, the heaviest cut of meat was Chris' brisket. We calculated 5-6 hours at 200-225 degrees.

The next largest cut were three pacific giant octopus tentacles that I acquired from the pacific a few weeks back. We placed this on the grill unseasoned.
While the key to keeping the thermometers within cooking range is to tune the intake (butterfly) and exhaust (chimney) valves, I believe that the most important part is to place new pieces of lump charcoal in their appropriate places at the appropriate time within the fire chamber. Today we used mesquite lump charcoal.
The weird thing is the seller is from Santa Cruz and the shirt is a medium. I have only given one to someone in Santa Cruz and it wasn't a medium. The worst part is it was selling for $.99 and didn't sell, lame. Anyway, just thought that it was really random to find one of my shirts on ebay.
