just put melt the hole behind the fold in the strap that will seal it
i would route the kole threw the back at the toop

Mine wasn't that cheap, it's the suunto d3 and I paid just about $330 for it I think. Suunto discontinued my watch and is now making the d4, not sure what that is selling for.
There was a thread here a while back about a cheaper free dive watch called the mosquito or something.
The main issue is you want a watch that samples at least once a second if you want a real accurate dive profile.
