Found. Avenger Aircraft. Flight 19? (Jupiter WW2 Curtiss Helldiver SB2C)

Did a Tec Dive Tuesday. It was rumored there is another deeper ledge off Jupiter. Well there isn't, but we stumbled on an airplane. I saw some fish swimming so I followed them. We ran into several grouper and a couple Hogfish. We took some and made our way to the surface. Back on the boat we were excited about the fish and schubasteve and I say did you notice the airplane? Apparently we were so busy with the fish, we didn't even make a big deal of the airplane . 2 other Tecs, Phil DeBerard and brother Dave said the same. I went back to the plane today with another group and took some video. Experts advise this plane is likely a T6 Avenger , the plane from the famous lost squadron of 1945. Pretty exciting. Going back next week. If you are certified to do 185fsw and want to go, call me. Video was edited by My bud John Sharktales. Enjoy

that's really cool. If it is one of the missing planes, that would be astounding.

It was awesome to swim up on something like knowing no one has seen that thing for a LONG time. Fish all over it. I had my CAMERA! but the damn shutter button was stuck. People ask me all the time "...why do you want to go through the training and equipment to tec dive, whats there to see down that deep...". You might find an undiscovered wreck of potential significance. Get qualified and come tec diving.

Here is some Flight 19 information for the mind to ponder and the critical eye to reflect on.

Flight 19 - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_19

Quote:

Unrelated Avenger wreckage

In 1986, the wreckage of an Avenger was found off the Florida coast during the search for the wreckage of the Space Shuttle Challenger.[citation needed] Aviation archaeologist Jon Myhre raised this wreck from the ocean floor in 1990. He was convinced it was one of the missing planes, but positive identification could not be made. In 1991, the wreckage of five Avengers was discovered off the coast of Florida, but engine serial numbers revealed they were not Flight 19. They had crashed on five different days all within 1.5 mi (2.4 km) of each other.[7] Records revealed that the various discovered aircraft, including the group of five, were declared either unfit for maintenance/repair or obsolete, and were simply disposed of at sea.[7]

Records also showed training accidents between 1942 and 1945 accounted for the loss of 95 aviation personnel from NAS Fort Lauderdale[8] In 1992, another expedition located scattered debris on the ocean floor, but nothing could be identified. In the last decade,[when?] searchers have been expanding their area to include farther east, into the Atlantic Ocean but the remains of Flight 19 have still never been confirmed found.

For you sleuths out there in cyberspace, here is some more food for thought.

I checked each year of this Aviation Accident Database for Florida crashes that just might be relevant to this mystery plane Randy found.

AVIATION ACCIDENT DATABASE

http://planecrashinfo.com/database.htm

Here below are three posibilities. There may be more and you can look yourselves. Or, perhaps it is an undocumented crash relating to drug smuggling or such or maybe a junk plane disposal.

Let's try to help Randy figure this out. :)
