Any interesting GoPro Setups?

I rigged up this GoPro gun the morning of a trip and liked it. My plan is to clean it up to make it look more like a gun (instead of a block) and add a trigger to turn it on and off.

Has anyone done anything similar?

I also want to be able to shoot in third person so I'm thinking of a back plate mount.

Just trying to brainstorm.

I found a method of stabilizing a handheld camcorder on YouTube - basically you make a simple (pleasantly cheap) lightweight large frame and the footage is a lot steadier than the footage taken when simply holding the camcorder. I made a frame from 20mm pvc tubing and I'll probably mount a couple of LED lights on the sides.

Just testing it around the house, the footage is a lot steadier than I'd be able to achieve without the frame. Another advantage is that it will disassemble and travel really well, and weighs nothing. I might wrap hockey tape around it before I hit the water, for grip.

Cheers, Alan.

I like how you mounted the camera, do you press the back leg against your chest?

I guess you could do, but I compare it to using a standard camcorder in a heavy underwater housing. I have the older Sony TRV950 with an Amphibico aluminium housing, but the housing inside its protective case weighs 11,5kg so it's almost too heavy to take on long haul holidays. For the DIY frame I would use both hands on the front uprights or just use one hand if I wanted to have one hand free. Its main purpose for me is to lend stability to the footage, while being convenient to transport. :)
