CMOR mapping chips

Any of you guys who spend time in the grounds run this CMOR chart plotter program? Worth the money? It sure looks cool beans.

I have seen it in use. It is a game changer and will be blowing up soon.

It would be awesome for finding lobster spots in the keys..... They don't have much of the Keys mapped yet.

If they had anything along OUR coast, say from Sarasota on up to Crystal River, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Pretty sure they're using noaa drawn charts. I can tell because they only sell areas the government already covered. Which is all free if you search the noaa website. So this is sorta not a miracle or game changer

Here's a couple screen shots from the free program I've used on my phone for free. Not spending 800 for something I paid for already thru taxes

Do you have a link to where we can get that? I've got their ENC and paper/Raster charts - what are these particular charts called?

It is actually work done by the USGS under the sound waves project. Kind of like LIDAR but with sonar. If you do a bunch of searching you can find more than you want. Personally I hope they don't do inshore water here.

Is this available for SWFL?

It sucks they want that much for this stuff... I'm not saying they didnt go out and map the bottom floor with their own boat, butt my wife has gone on a few trips with USF. she's employed by the USGS (she works for them out of st.pete) and she has surveyed some of this same ground in the elbow and middle grounds. They use a multi beam system to gather all this info. If this is the same info, usf has this info and should be under the usf website. I'm not sure where to find it st but it might be useful for someone to do some digging.. if it is, give us a break in the price CMOR!!

There is a lot more to this then getting the data and formatting it to a plotter. The location true up, layering an syncing requires and enormous amount of time and technical resources a small company can have a hard time funding. Garmin pay charts are less than stellar and they get $400! CMOR is not off base on pricing for what it would give you.

Moose... here's the info that I found. It's technically a USF research cruise. This would be info solely from USF's C-SCAMP program. I looked at the (cmor) website and didn't see anything citing the research. This info was funded by the national fish and wildlife foundation (NFWF). The info from USF is a 4 meter grid.

That being said... from the knowledge I have, the time spent to reformat and transfer over all the data wouldn't take that long using ARCmap or other hydrographic based processing programs.. the only significant cost I could see for this, is paying for the data from USF..

So overall, this service (c-mor) isn't a all original program. And we most likely won't be seeing any new published maps in the Tampa area soon. There is a new initiative to re-map all of Florida out to 200 meters.. but that's more like a 10 year program and hasn't started yet. Hopefully we will have some awesome mapping done in the near future. This will help out all of our fishery programs to determine fish pop.
