new to freshwater: living in FoCo Colorado

Hey, it's been awhile since I've been on the forum. I moved to Fort Collins from Maui a few years ago for work. Previous to that I lived in San Diego most my life. I did a ton of spearing in the ocean mainly yellows, halibut, rockfish, even scored some wahoo and pargo on some Baja trips. Point is, this is the longest I've ever been landlocked and I'm ready to kick the dust off my gear and check out the freshwater scene up here. By the sounds of it I'll need to get a shorter gun due to the poor visibility. If anyone is interested in sharing some info, meeting up, or knows anyone selling smaller rail guns let me know! I'd be interested in any advice or help I can get. It seems as though Colorado doesn't have the clearest regulations in place. I plan on scouting some lakes in WY and NE this spring.

Mostly interested in walleye and wipers but some carp will do for target practice.

Also whats the deal with pike in Colorado these days? Which are the main lakes we can legally spear in?

Thanks!

Google Rocky Mountain spearfishing. That is a good place to start meeting people to dive with. There is a pretty strong dive club at lake Mac Nebraska and they host annual tournaments. Green mountain reservoir and rifle gap are the only two reservoirs that I know in colorado that allow spearfishing for pike.

Thanks for the info svivian. I've heard numerous great things about the rocky mountain club. I'll look into it!

I'm a San Diego boy here in Fort Collins. Colorado is not very friendly to spearfishing but as you correctly deduced, Wyoming and Nebraska are close by. Drop me a PM if you'd like to go scout out some new areas.

I've been living in Laramie for a bit. Haven't been hunting out here and am itching to get out. Drop a pm if you go out.

Brandiego is a good resource. I'm never on here any more, but am also in foco, and am happy to share info

Anyone get after it this year? I moved to Denver from Florida in mid May. I've done a bunch of hiking/climbing on 14ers and have been up to some decent sized lakes that are rarely visited and would love to take a dip with a 5mm suit and a 82cm pathos next spring/summer. I also have access to an indoor pool at Lifetime Fitness Centennial, so we can always train there need be.

Hey Alec, made several trips this year. You should look at going up to lake Mac in Nebraska. Otherwise you will need to go to Wyoming or Utah to spearfish anything you want to actually eat.

Hey, also in FoCo.
Seems like there are enough of us to have a little meetup (read: have a beer or five) and plan for a trip to WY or Lake mac this summer. Takers?

Great svivian!
Sorry for the slow response, I'm not getting posts notifications anymore and don't know how to fix it.

Are you in Fort Collins?

Sweet boat! Need to see some saltwater action :p

I don't get to go to your neck of the woods often so that makes a pre-trip planning get together a bit harder. I can still bring some FoCo beers with me on the trip, though. Let's see if we get others to jump in for a trip to Wyoming/Lake Mac this summer and we can put a group together!

Dudes, jump on this!
