Re: Carbon cannons

I could be wrong, but 3 band 8mm setups are starting to get to the point where recoil becomes an issue on anything other than a timber gun.

Re: CBX Bridge to TJ

Any word on this topic from anyone? I have some flights scheduled for early Oct. and wondering if I have to push them back again.

Re: Slip/detachable flopper modification.

Ya, I don't think I would use it instead of a conventional slip tip when specifically hunting yt/wsb or pelagics. I just hate when I'm holding both shafts at the trunk of my car getting ready for a...

Re: Slip/detachable flopper modification.

How has it worked for you? I like the idea, but I haven't been able to find much feedback on them.

Re: How often do you carry a knife while spearfishing?

I just roll with one of GR's knives that are serrated on both sides. When do you ever need a non serrated edge when diving anyway?

Re: Gun blank Layup

Does it take an oil finish well? My epoxy work looks terrible, I've resigned myself to oil for now.

Re: Gun blank Layup

I've only built 3 guns, and I'm finishing up a 4th, but between the teak guns and the padauk gun I preferred the padauk. The teak was easier to work, but it needed a lot more lead than the padauk....

Re: Mask

I lost my alien and thought I would try a mystic, but it leaked so I ended up going back to an alien.

Re: Wooden speargun grips for sale from Emirates

Doyenofcastle listed them in the for sale forum a while back. I could be wrong, but I think the idea is you cut a tenon out of that block above the grip and then you cut a mortise in the blank and...

Re: 1000 steps beach

I'm not too familiar with the area but you might want to look into your local MPA boundaries.

Re: New Abellan Denton 2019

Materials are cheaper, but tools are pricey if you don't have everything already. It's worth it though if you plan on making multiple guns.

Re: Trigger safeties: To have or not to have

Whether shooting or diving, muzzle control should be #1. Sorry, but if you are getting so caught up in helping your buddy handle a fish that you aren't aware of where your spear is pointing I don't...

Re: Dive watch opinion Sporasub vs Omer

I believe Aqualung owns both companies, so they probably are the same watch. Personally I think surface time is the most important feature, that would probably be a deal breaker for me

Re: Dive watch opinion Sporasub vs Omer

I got an Italian SP1 off ebay for cheap and it has worked great for me. I can't really comment on all of the features though because all I really use it for is surface intervals.

Re: Multi-wood Handle Oil Finish

I guess my biggest concern was if the tenon on the handle swelled much more than the blank it might try to split the lamps apart.

Multi-wood Handle Oil Finish

So I just glued up a blank of goncalo alves for a 45-47" reef gun with a reel. I'm planning on setting it up with 2 14mm small id bands and a 130cm 7.5mm shaft. I'm terrible at getting a good epoxy...

Re: New Omer Alien mask

I'm always scared I'm going to melt the skirt. I've always used plain white toothpaste with no crystals or gels in them. That and spit and rinse right before every dive usually works for me.

Re: AR handle counter-sink with what bit advise

I'm just working with a 1/4" shank router on my table. I don't think they make bits long enough to clear my table surface and have enough left to clear my handle cutout and take out the material...

Re: AR handle counter-sink with what bit advise

I usually clamp the frame to the gun where I want it and put blue tape down as a sort of outline and to protect the wood a little. Then I use a 1/4" brad point bir for clean corners and then use a...
