Re: Norcal vis with the flooding?

Last week a buddy of mine sent me a news photo of a boat that had broken loose in Noyo Harbor and landed on the beach out in the bay. The water looked like chocolate milk.

Re: Norcal vis with the flooding?

Just keep in mind that they just issued another winter storm warning through Thursday night and looking at the snow levels we're probably gonna get more rain. I was in the back country yesterday and...

Re: Wetsuit question

As to the original question, I purchased the Mares Instinct 5.5mm high waist, (as opposed to farmer john), pants and 7mm top a few years ago from the Freedive Shop in West Sacramento. I chose this...

Re: Garrapata?

Thanks guys! I'll just have to do a bit more exploring to find the ways down that you describe, but that's part of the fun!

I knew the ocean was laying down Sunday but had to leave Saturday, so...

Garrapata?

Every time I go to Monterey we end up driving down to look at Garrapata. Ever since the Monterey Tritons showed me that place I've wanted to dive it, but it's always been too rough.

Last week...

Re: Photo of the day

To be honest, I'm not a huge AR fan. Shot them plenty, but just not my style. I have friends who hunt and the wife has some major spine/nerve issues. Firing even a .243 in a bolt action caused her...

Re: Photo of the day

Crap! I just went back and looked at your photo. Didn't realize it was a dreaded AR and I viewed the photo here in the republic of Kalifornia. Probably going to jail any minute now...:p

Very...

Re: Mask

I've had masks that fit great in the store, but when I put my hood on, not so great. I guess scrunching up an already wrinkled face isn't conducive to a good seal. As a result I like fairly small...

Re: Inflatable dive float

That looks really good as well, but my concern with any of the inflatable floats is if it can be repaired if punctured. Diving NorCal means dodging tons of urchins, fish spines, etc.

Inflatable dive float

Has anybody tried this one? Checked it out in the shop and it looks great, but I don't know if it can be repaired if punctured....

Re: Photo of the day

Our local supermarket had a really nice salad bar until there was a Grateful Dead concert near our town. The critters that showed up for that and camped all over the place would come in and graze at...

Re: How much of an ass whipping are you expected to risk?

I grew up in Sacramento, CA. Last year there was a shooting in which a black man was shot and killed by two police officers. A couple well known organizations brought in lots of protesters. At one...

Re: I hate *&%$#@*&! robo solicitation calls!

The most common one now in our area is the automated voice that says you recently stayed in one of their hotels and have won a vacation to a luxury resort. If you don't answer they hang up when your...

Re: I hate *&%$#@*&! robo solicitation calls!

What bugs me is that they set it up so your caller ID shows it as a local number so you'll answer. Once it even came up as our local school district, which is where my wife works. I answered and it...

Monterey's looking good!

Went to Monterey with the wife for our 30th anniversary the past couple days. Got a chance to jump in for an hour or so at Otter's Cove. The ocean was the flattest I've ever seen, but the welcome...

Re: Spearguns are dangerous

Darn right spearguns are dangerous weapons, at least in California. Some years ago it became legal to spear Stripers in the American River. The anglers threw a huge fit, not wanting spearos in the...

Trip report: Fort Bragg

We went on our annual vacation to Bragg, arriving June 25th and left on July 5th. As luck would have it, the waves were huge from the time we arrived until the night before we left. Of course, it...

Re: 130 Rob Allen Rollergun Review

Yep, that's the truth. My "long" gun for the Mendocino coast is a RA 70. I'm headed there for our annual 10 day family vacation in a couple weeks and will probably use my little Riffe 33" C-0 most...

I think under banded guns shoot high.

Well at least a couple of mine do. My most used gun in NorCal is a basic RA 70 with a 7 mm, single flopper shaft. When I used it with a 3/4" band it shot great, but when I switched to a single 5/8"...

Thanks for the kind words Max. I remember meeting you and your sons years ago at Caspar and you too have done an outstanding job. Your sons are fine young men indeed!

On that note, I'm sending...

Re: The destruction of Boy Scouts

I think I achieved the things I have in life, especially my outdoor skills, because of my bad experience in Boy Scouts. Our camping and back packing trips were dismal. Our scoutmaster once asked me...

Re: The destruction of Boy Scouts

Max I have to be honest and also ashamed of myself. I was not supportive of them being in scouts at first. You see, when I was a kid I wanted to be a scout so my parents enrolled me in our local...
