Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Slamming a shaft tail to latch it should not be necessary if the trigger mechanism is properly designed. A problem with dipping sear tooth trigger mechanisms is there is no backing projection on the...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

The Rob Allen “Vecta” trigger mechanism (tested with a non-standard metal trigger) appears to have about 5 to 1 gearing in the sear lever, therefore for a 120 kg loading on the mechanism’s sear tooth...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

When you think about it spearguns are the most powerful weapons that run all the propulsive force through their trigger mechanism, nothing else comes close. Say you have a six band gun with 100...

Re: band retraction speed... 14 vs 16 vs 20

Here is an interesting two bands into one set-up. We have seen this used on rollerguns with cord restricted bands for the stretch on the top deck and the double bands staying underneath the stock....

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

I am pretty sure that it is their long sear lever tails, double the length of the tail and you halve the pressure at the contact with the trigger retention step. That in turn requires a long or deep...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

It would be interesting to see the results of a mechanism with a long sear lever tail and wide pivot pin spacing in a forward cam lock set-up. The question would be how much loading to use, although...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

That drawing, which I saved when those Excalibur guns first came out (circa 2000), showed a sear lever that looked flimsy to me and I thought that they would not be durable with that tiny roller...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Not much different to the Omer "Excalibur" mechanism from some time ago, the roller sits on a tiny axle mounted in thin supports in the sear lever tail. I don't think that these guns are around...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

MIM parts shrink when they are heated to densify them, so there are shrinkage rules to consider. Lost wax casting is used for some trigger components and there you have shrinkage rules as well as...

Re: When Guns Are Not Allowed - The Fish Lasso (A Rubber Actuated Snare)

Very interesting and thanks for posting it. I see that fish “sleeping/resting” under overhangs and among crevices in the rocks are having the monofilament loop placed over them and it is then drawn...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Although not a trigger mechanism look how small contact areas are in spearguns using different means to hold spears and pistons, the contact areas are shown in blue. The metal to metal contacts...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

The brown sear lever would work OK, but as the levers swing apart you would only have a line contact running across the width of the levers as gaps opened up in front and behind. Actually most...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

I think the lower sketch should look like this, after I slightly adjusted it. It is possible that the retention step in the aftermarket stainless steel trigger does not match the sear lever tail...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Rob said the stainless steel trigger piece is an aftermarket item produced by someone else to retrofit to his guns. This probably came about when some plastic triggers of this type were being busted...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Thanks very much for your comments Rob. My water flow suggestion was just a means to simulate any debris falling out from the open bottom of the cassette as guns are usually upright and horizontal...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

That damage is the "over the falls" loading as the sliding surfaces are just about to part company when the trigger retention step lets go of the sear lever tail. The levers are not sitting quite...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

Big wide and thick levers keep the contact forces down in the Kitto M3 and M5 "Main Battle Tank" trigger mechanisms as they are not curve matched, the three levers, four if you count the necessary...

Re: Rob Allen Tests Stainless Trigger Mechs

I think the geometry is about right, the mechanism cam locks because the force directed upwards from the sear lever tail is directed at the trigger pivot pin, or a tiny amount forwards of it as the...

Re: What To Do About Rubber Rot (gummy bungees)?

Rubber reverts as it oxidizes and rubber under tension is attacked even more rapidly, that is why bands start to bust just where they are bound by wrapping a lump like the ball in a wire bridle with...
