Re: New Ocean Rhino/Biller Free/Line Shaft

Correct, the spears have a cone on them that prevents you from back loading. After a chat with Kevin I'm not convinced that there is much if any time benefit in back loading vs front loading...

Re: Shore dive and gun difficulties 10/21/18

The brain is behind and above the eyes of the fish (towards the gillplate). There is a soft spot you can get a knife tip into from the side of the fish's head.

You can obviously do fine with the...

Re: New Ocean Rhino/Biller Free/Line Shaft

FYI - Ocean Rhino does have a "hyper loop" line system that allows you to just slip a ring over the end of the spear when the need arises. I used it last week on an AJ, worked good.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Nice fish dkay! We might have seen you out there, NW of Anclote today. Vis was a superb nearly ttb in about 55' but less fishy than this spot was a few weeks ago. A big party boat came out to hang...

Re: Scuba incident/accident/Rescue via USCG Florida Middle Grounds 08/16/2018

You make a good point about losing your air supply if you cut the LP hose.

I like the idea of inverting & kicking down towards bottom while kinking the inflator hose. I think I'd probably be...

Re: Scuba incident/accident/Rescue via USCG Florida Middle Grounds 08/16/2018

Yeah, always smart to have oxygen on board when diving. People can still get bent in shallower water although I would guess it is far less common in the gulf than on the East coast where the water...

Re: Conditions after Hurricane Michael in Clearwater

I believe that fishing is good following a big storm that stirs up the bottom dwelling creatures so glad to know this aligns with the local wisdom here. While I'd rather be shooting fish poor vis...

Wind, Waves data

I found this interesting so I'm sharing a link. Can't zoom in too close and I haven't figured out if there is a way to see the data driving the graphics (eg wind speed) but it is a cool graphical...

Re: Interesting Finds

Not the kind of utility I'd hope for with underwater finds but a find nonetheless!

Re: Scuba incident/accident/Rescue via USCG Florida Middle Grounds 08/16/2018

I had a similar thought although this guy said it was "five seconds" to surface. I know that falling objects fall at 32ft/sec^2 but have no idea how fast an inflated BC shoots to surface.

I think...

Re: Scuba incident/accident/Rescue via USCG Florida Middle Grounds 08/16/2018

I hope the person evac'd invested in some DAN insurance before their trip. It is interesting that the captain had the boat in gear while the helicopter was dropping a crew member to the boat & when...

Re: Project Boat Discussion: Tips, Ideas, Mistakes...

Nice work James! 1,000lbs of fish....you think that's enough? After you are done with boat you'll be looking for a 2nd hand commercial ice machine :thumps:

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

20m NW of Anclote we landed on a VERY fishy spot but vis was poor at around 15'. One sighting of a large tiger shark and two 5' barricuda. Another 5m or so put us at 60' where vis was nearly ttb (a...
