Re: possible world record cobia?

I visit Brazil every now and then. I do not believe spearing on SCUBA is allowed, I asked a charter captain if I could spear. He said yes, but only freediving. Brazil is huge, I wonder where...

Re: Gulfcoast info request

The shelf is very shallow there, a 30 mile boat ride from Crystal River will get you in 30-40ft of water. A great place to free-dive provided the vis is reasonable. My first SCUBA dives there I felt...

Re: 81lb gutted black and 20lb scamp. 'Day of the year'

Great fish and weather. Did you find that empty boat same day? That thing surely has a sad story behind it. What is the info on the club, I'd like to check them out.

Re: Loaded speargun onboard?

I hear what Moose is saying and spear similar waters, and have been on boats with folks rolling in cocked. Personally I never do this, if a biter is nearby and comes in hot I can still jab it and...

vis report lee/collier county 120ft 9-3-13

A thermocline existed in most spots 20ft off the bottom in 120ft. Vis was limited to under 20ft on most spots, though we had low light levels due to cloud cover. 65 miles SW of Sanibel.

Recommendations for dive charter, Jupiter

Coming over from the Gulf side and looking to hop on a boat for Sunday, specifically for lobster. Usually book through Scuba Works but do not recall this boat: Capt SL8R Dive Charters. Any feedback?

Re: Power Head for Free Diving

Thanks for the info, that is a cheap solution, the .308 would definitely do the job. My experience with an aluminum version of this same design with a .223 is that the blast opens a hole, the inertia...

Re: Do you guys get a lot of lobster on the gulf side like we do on the Atlantic?

They are spotty, but you can target them and do ok. At least that is what I have found off Lee County. I have found them in a variety of depths 40-135', biggest one taken was 15lbs, looked like a...

Re: Jupiter Mutton

Nice fish! I was on a head/dive boat out of Jupiter once for lobster and asked about the spear fishing. The mate said, "yeah you can get Muttons 16-18 pretty often". I dive on the Gulf side and was...

Re: Moose Report : Crystal River

Nice report. How deep were the Big Reds? I have not made it past 65ft or so in that area and find plenty of gags/reds, but the reds have been fairly small maybe 12lbs tops. I suspect just a bit...

Re: Crystal River Scallop Grounds

Go south of all the boats you will see and get into 3ft of water. Drift/swim until you find some then anchor. Lots of scallops, easy to finf, but they are smaller this year. I suggest to keep only...

Re: Small Boats with Dive Platform?

A 17ft (or smaller) Boston Whaler may work if you get a folding trailer and can angle the parking a bit. Also, a boat that light, you may be able to allow the stern to rest on the floor, giving a tad...
