Bahamas Trip Last Week 6-9-19

A video from a 3-day trip last week. Definitely not my best shooting, but the crew did well with hogs and some grouper. Damn batteries die at the worst tme, so I missed a lot of action.

Re: Band Calculations

Thanks, I think it would be helpful to more clearly define exactly what SF stretch factor is.

For example, if a single piece of latex is 12 inches long in a relaxed state and it is stretch to 24...

Re: Lion fish population declining?

I did 3 days of diving in a few areas in the Bahamas on healthy reefs and limestone outcroppings in 5 to 40 ft depth. I don't recall seeing ONE lionfish.

Their populations in various areas...

Re: Small ID bands or regular size bands.

I think you should be more concerned about the od. If you are using a smaller od then the band will be weaker. Adding a little rubber into a 1/16” hole is not going to increase the cross sectional...

Re: How do you like to fix a gun shooting high?

I think the first thing i would try is a longer shaft. I have tried using a gun a few times with a short shaft overhang and I had significant accuracy problems. I suspect it was primarily...

Re: Video from 5/28/19. Is is June 1st yet?

Nice video!

Why do you seem to often load another shaft, rather than just pick up the one you just shot. For practice, when it gets busy?

Re: Can a JBL Woody Magnum 63 (4W46) shoot 5/16 AND 3/8 shafts?

Good luck with the fat shaft. They are much slower than the 5/16" shaft. I used 3/6" shafts on JBL guns many years ago with three bands and stopped because they were so slow and I had a tough time...

Cobia from Palm Beach

I've not had too many opportunities this year to pull the trigger on a cobia. Nice day today, OK vis, not too hot and the water is warm.

Re: bladder fail

Thanks for the reminder! I always try to keep one extra marker float on me, in case I need some extra lift. Glad you were able to handle the situation.

These heavy steel tanks and warm water...

Re: High Pressure Float Questions

The length of the floatline is also a function of current. You can get away with a short line in zero current, but in strong currents a longer floatline will be appreciated. A general comment, not...

Re: Jupiter Saturday 5-4-2019

Thanks, no videos or reports of people getting groupers? I saw a few very small gags, nothing else.

Jupiter Saturday 5-4-2019

Did quite a few drops looking for fish. Decent vis, slight north current and definitely cooler on the bottom.
We didn't find any grouper, but got a few decent fish. I was shooting high and made...

Re: High Pressure Float Questions

I would think a 100 ft floatline should work. I have never shot a halibut, but it is my suspicion from shooting a lot of flounders etc. That that type of fish is going to settle back to the bottom...
