Re: Which snorkel is better?

+1 for a big bore. The fewer gadgets the better. My favorite had two fittings to adjust the angle.

Re: Breakwater Battle turning in Our Favor

The truth is no one really knows what the end effects will be. Personally I wish they’d tear it down. More clean water and surf.

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

You loop the lanyard around the bottom of the sheath. This also helps hold the knife in place. If you need it super quick then don’t put the lanyard on. I wear mine on my calf just fine in kelp,...

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

The Salvimar knife is okay. I prefer a lanyard. Often I need to use my hands freely. It’s nice to drop the blade and have full dexterity. With a short lanyard I can invert my hand and get a perfect...

Re: Tool to cut yourself out of kelp quickly?

If you’re caught, calm down. You only need to cut what’s got you. You probably can slip out of it. A few slashes with a standard free diving knife will get you loose. Shears will cut a lot of other...

Re: Ear Surgery Advice

Slug, never heard of anyone getting a scan. John, the methods of removing the bone are the same, they’ve just figured out ways with fewer incisions. I know several people who had to repeat the...

Re: Thread Insert for Wood

West marine sells them. I put them in a gun where the reel came off often. It isn’t necessary if it’s teak. Just use regular SS screws. Turn them backwards until you feel them click into the threads...

Re: Ear Surgery Advice

John, your procedure is one of the most extreme. When it’s time to repeat it I’m sure you’ll find that there are much better options these days. Slug, is CT consultation or a scan?

Re: Ear Surgery Advice

Had to have the left ear done. I had a small incision in my outer ear about 1/2 inch. Cutting behind the ear is super painful from what friends have told me. My understanding is that both procedures...

Re: Paddies near newport

There’s dodos and yellows around, it’s worth a shot. I like to look at a map, draw lines from every harbor to every offshore bank and island destination, and fish outside those lines. Unless it’s...

Re: Postcards from Catalina and Points Due West: 7/28/19

I saw bluefin on the ridge below SCI today. Scared something on the Avalon bank in the grey. Looked like healthy sized yft but could be BFT. BFT were right up against the temp break on the cool side...

Re: Grunion Munchies, Sharks and Sea Lion Tidbits

Bob, I’ve seen 6’ GWS attack sea lions. Any idea what the bite radius was? Maybe it’s a juvenile learning to hunt mammals.
