Re: Daily Vis report thread

I did it again yesterday Sunday at high tide 10:30 AM-12:30. No waves but strong current and still lots of whitish stuff in suspension. Viz was improved compared to 2 weeks ago, I'd say 4-5ft in...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Yeah, well the day was nice and sunny, no wind, no waves, only cold water. With fish and good vis, that would have been perfect.
That inlet is the nicest of New jersey, it has been made for us,...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Hi Burnz, It's not just about the thickness, as I said above, not all body parts are equally sensitive to cold. Also I have an open suit in 2 parts with the farmer style lowerpart overlapped by the...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

No great viz today in Barnegat inlet at high tide ~10-11AM, like 3-4 Ft maybe but improving towards noon to 5ft. No Reelers on the jetty and I didn't see anything alive or not at 5-10ft deep. Maybe...

Re: GoPro hero session

Yet another update

Still with the session with a filter, it turns out that there is always a bubble developing in the space between the filter and the case. I have still to figure out what to do...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

The reelers are going to make sushis out of you...just kidding. I personally avoid crossing lines and so I try to stay about in the same spot. I let myself with the current for a dive, then come...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Same bad viz again at high tide Barnegat Light jetty today Friday after Thanksgiving. I doubt it's gonna be cleared up for the Week end. I have a video of last Nov 2016 in perfectly clear water....

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Bad viz yesterday at high tide in the inlet at Barnegat light. Fish must be there, judging from the entire navy fleet fishing in the mouth of the inlet, and the many reelers packed on the tip of the...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Re: Spearfishing in Barnegat Bay - not Inlet

Water can be clear, from what I saw just watching from a deck. There are videos online that show it is not very deep in general, but it must be deep enough for navigation in some channels. I believe...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Oh that was you. So it was bad viz all the way down, almost bump my head on the rocks at the bottom.
Always I expect better viz but...soon.

Re: Daily Vis report thread

I went on the Barnegat Light jetty yesterday Sunday at high tide. The viz was poor, maybe 3 ft. I don't get it because the pools of water that accumulate on the other side of the jetty at high tide...

Re: GoPro: Meet Fusion and Relive Reality

I wouldn't even try those new gopro rated for 33ft without housing in 5 ft of New Jersey water. Otherwise : risk of scratch by direct impact to the lenses or sand in suspension. To me, the camera is...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Barnegat inlet yesterday, very choppy (inlet side) until slack and viz was in the 4-6 ft on surface and not much better at 20ft deep. High tide water wasn't cold. I saw lots of togs (small), but I...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

And how was the visibility when you went ? I went the next day, so Sunday, and I had the feeling the viz was not too bad, perhaps 5-8ft ?
but it was hard to say without actually going in the water....

Re: Daily Vis report thread

true. Today at 12 it was swelled sea, wind, waves in the 4ft . I waited until slack but still too windy and wavy. Viz would have been in the 4ft range, not worth it.

Re: Cape may diving

At high tide it must be OK. You don't wanna deal with rip currents during ebb. There were some TV news about Atlantic city rip currents, something to do about sand slide. It probably doesn't apply to...

Re: Daily Vis report thread

Pea soup last Monday during the eclipse at BI. Really bad with water really warm. I waited until high tide flow started around 5PM: no improvement. So I guess the ocean water is dirty too.

Re: GoPro hero session

Another update, regarding the session but it may apply to other Gopros as well.

I used a Red Filter, supposedly needed in deep tropical blue water, in shallow (15ft maybe) turbid water with low...
