Re: Long Island daily vis thread

Hit Moriches West Jetty this morning for end of incoming. Solid 6-8' viz, maybe more if you drifted more into the inlet.
A few surf fisherman, all good and cordial (many years ago there was a more...

Social media callanged? Stop talking about me...
Didn't login here in about a year and didn't dive in almost two years, but I plan to dive the Hellenic.
I drove today to ponquoque and the water...

Re: Petition to keep beach access in deal. Sign!

The comment on beach replenishment is spot on. If they want state and federal funds for beach projects, then put up with the crowds. You got MY tax $, hence you'll get my family on OUR beach. You...

Re: Block island

Maybe he has a few available spots and he is offering them to fellow spearos? The post is a bit ambiguous but I read it as offering and not asking.

Re: Mako owners BEWARE!

Models get updated for many reasons, not only to fix defects. You are implying that Mako knew they had a systemic problem with their handles. Do you have proof (statements from fellow spearos) to...

Re: Dive shop open cell wetsuit issue

You are almost 100lb too light for a size 6 suit (I'm wearing a size 6, but I'm walking at 240---260lb)... and independent of attitude, the store owner probably deserves the flack for not being able...

Re: Looking spearfishing location tips for Westhampton and nearby locations.

Try Ponquoque bridge. You might need a parking permit for the day, I'm not sure when they stop asking for it (after Labor Day or later).

Re: Railgun Fabrication

There are a few more things to consider before increasing the "power":
1. Can the trigger take the tension? I don't know if RA is using the same handle/trigger for all its models. Some euro gun mecs...

Re: A Loaded Gun

Some mecs don't handle well the pressure... I had problems with a Sporasub Viper when adding a second band (it misfire immediately), with an Omer Skorpion Pneumatic and with a no-name trigger that I...

Re: Waterway Blades FG $50

I'll get them - either with the foot pockets or without. I'm normally using Dessault pockets 44-46, how do they compare to the 12-13 you mentioned?

Re: Tuff1 grips

Interesting. I do have a few guns with "slippery" handle, and my current solution is to glue-on the anti-slip tape from home depot (black, 4" wide, used for stairs and stuff, self adhesive, looks...

Re: Roller 80

The problem with putting too much energy into a short shaft is that it will have an initial velocity higher than the heavier shaft... and the energy is lost in the water related to the square speed,...

Same here - I love the trigger ceviche, never tried tog ceviche.
In Jim's fancy recipe I replace the grapefruit with orange, so that it gets closer to conc salad. Sometimes I add avocado, but add it...

Re: 110cm Sporasub black viper

I'm interested in the barrel if you consider selling it for parts. Actually barrel, the green float and maybe the reel. No use for the shaft, handle, muzzle and trigger.

Re: wetsuit

3mil Cressi Apnea during summer when water temp gets 65 and above, 5 mil cressi apnea when temp is bellow 65. With a good 5 mil I was OK for 2+ hours in 46 degree water. With a 3 mil I was OK as low...

Re: Long Island daily vis thread

You need the NY saltwater registration (it is free). You have to obey the same rules (size, bag limit) as all other anglers:

You have to have a dive flag...

Re: Thoughts on a new wetsuit

During the hot summer months you might get hot in Long Island Sound in a 5mm - probably a 3 mm is better. If you're a regular guy the 5mm will be good for the rest of the season. If you have 0 body...

Re: new spear gun

A euro is measured only by the barrel - so a "90 euro" is a rear-handle gun with a barrel (just the pipe, no trigger or handle or muzzle) that is 36" long.

American guns are measured from end of...

Re: First Build-48" Teak/Padauk Rolller

If you have a router then it is very easy to straighten the blank and be sure it has 90 degrees edges. Get a straight shelf board (use a straight edge to be sure the edge of the shelf board is...

Re: Block Island for an overnight aug 16-22

Justin,
As far as I know Blackfish season is not open in NY in August. The fact that you would harvest the fish at Block doesn't matter from the law perspective. This should be quite clear from this...

Re: Shore and Kayak Diving Eastern LI

I tried ditch plains once. The parking is a major pain in the butt - if you're not local, the only option (at least a few years ago) was to buy a seasonal parking permit for $370.
I picked the...

Re: Shore and Kayak Diving Eastern LI

Moriches Inlet - you can drop your kayak on the north side of the bay (by the coast guard/ resaturant... there is free parking), then paddle to the inlet. If you don't know the area it would help...

Re: Recommendations for a new gun for the area

There are very few guns that are "multi-role" - something that could take a big striper, yet deal with low viz around jetty.

If your budget is in the 250-300 range, check out a Riffe mid handle...
