Re: Scuba incident/accident/Rescue via USCG Florida Middle Grounds 08/16/2018

I had the good fortune to have recruited a good dive trainer. He covered this in class as an uncontrolled accent. Turn fin up, head down and kick like heck to control the rate of accent.
Never had...

Re: Anybody been to the MG recently?

Commercial fisherman friend of mine went out to the mg last week and said that it was almost a wasted trip. Too many sharks and had more productive numbers in closer.

Re: I give you the endangered Goliath Grouper(s) !!

Straight out of Steinhatchee there's an AR that had has huge concrete tanks and other rubble. Inside one of the tanks I counted ten jewfish. Around the area that's about the size of a small home,...

Re: Sharks in the Gulf

In October, you don't want to be anywhere near the barge west of cedar key. They stack up just before their southward migration. If you get out there, bring a light and hunt the south end which is...

Re: Sharks in the Gulf

Tigers are fair game in federal waters IF you have your HMS permit and the shark permit that is free right now. Sand tigers are totally off the list.
Tigers, in my opinion are not that good eating....

Re: Sharks in the Gulf

I don't recommend my course of action to anyone. It was a calculated decision that I put a lot of thought into. I didn't see the need to make my bride a widow just to go and spear a fish or two. I'm...

Re: Sharks in the Gulf

I dove in the Cedar Key to Steinhatchee areas and got tired of fending off sharks. Took all the joy out of diving. Sold all of my gear to a member of the board and haven't looked back. I still fish...

Re: Need a little help locating a wreck

The way it was told to me is that in a bad storm in 2008, this tug went down. It took the lives of several crew. The captain faced charges but was exonerated after board reviewed the case. What...

Ive recently came across a wreck of a tug that went down west and a little north of the Suwannee River. It's standing on it's stern providing quite a bit of relief. It's in aprx 85 fsw.

Just watched a broadcast about two more divers not surfacing from the Nest.

Re: Goliath Rodeo

Knew a diver out of Crystal River that had his wife save his life by pulling him up onto their boat. A huge Jewish kept attaching him, broke several ribs in the process. Best to keep a weather eye on...

Re: Anyone out of Gainesville fl going to cedar key/steinhatchee?

Well, we made it out and had a great time. Seas were dead flat, like a mill pond all day. We made it to the 17 mile shrimp boat wreck and had top to bottom vis in 40 fsw. Looked like an aquarium. ...

Re: Some of my shore dive pics

Nice haul. Did a lot of shore diving as a kid off of Hollywood and Dania beaches. That was a very long time ago but all great memories.

Sheepshead are in

Went out Saturday in all that heavy fog and made it safely 17.7 miles out of the Stein to the shrimpboat wreck. The water was clear enough to make out the hull in 38 ft. No Amberjack at all but there...

Re: need plumber...divers please read..

Using Shark bites is the best way to connect your tubing. Simple matter of cutting the CPVC or copper to the correct length and fully snap the Bite on them. Turn the water back on slowly to be sure...

Re: Fishing for grouper at night?

Great frogging on a new moon! I have a Gamo Whisper Fusion in .22 cal. heck of a frog gun! Use that new moon period and several days after that while it's plenty dark. You can get in some good...

Re: Fishing for grouper at night?

Marcus, you've hit right on the reason. Gators love frogs especially the smaller gators. At a full moon they are much easier to be spotted and homed in on by a hungry coon or gator. The ponds down in...

Re: Fishing for grouper at night?

Weve always did good on bottom fishing during a full moon. They seem to feed better at night then and less so during the day. The bait didn't seem to matter that much, squid, sardines etc. The area...

Re: Silly question but didnt know where to ask it.

In an attempt to get back on question, try to time your trip during a full moon. They, and most reef dwellers are very active at this time. That's one reason that the early morning hours of daylight...

Re: Citizen scientists needed for FWC barotrauma tool study

The results are in. The tool works flawlessly. It's a great addition to any ones tackle box. You will need to dedicate a pole or line for it's use but we'll worth the extra effort. One hundred...
