Re: The Other Side of the Conception Coin..

If those work I could certainly use one. When camping or hunting I charge batteries, radio, and phone off the accessory port in my truck. Always nervous about it and constantly checking on it.

Re: The Other Side of the Conception Coin..

Pete,
I don't know a lot about the lithium ion technology, but I'm learning. Some of our search and rescue volunteers bought made in China headlamps that ran on 18650 batteries. They had built in...

Re: Florida Diver sets New Halibut Spearfishing Record

I think he used the dog as his float. A novel approach...:p

Re: Florida Diver sets New Halibut Spearfishing Record

I've lived in Truckee over 30 years but before I moved here there was a small dive club. The old timers tell the story of going to Alaska and spearing a huge flattie. They were on scuba and there...

Re: Fire on the Conception

If I understand all this correctly, the exact cause of this tragedy is not yet known, and this boils down to 6 pages of conjecture and ranting about a variety of issues.

Mods, please move this...

Re: Anyone want to dive Pacifica?

Interesting article, but I noticed it was written in 2015. I'm sure all those sharks are in Australia now.:D

Re: Question on regulator and BCD

That's the way I understand it. I've had some experience with different back inflate BCD's but never the backplate and wing setup.

The back inflate BCD's I've used all came assembled with...

Re: Question on regulator and BCD

That's some great info Gary. May I ask, what are your thoughts on the back inflate BCD's with rigid backplates, like the Scuba Pro Nighthawk, etc.? That's what I've been looking at lately.
Thanks,...

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

You guys seeing any kelp down there? Solid urchins and little to no kelp up here on the north coast.

Re: Question on regulator and BCD

Steel tanks are definitely the way to go. My buddy owns steels and enjoys the advantages you describe. I however just don't scuba dive enough to warrant the cost of purchase and inspections on...

Re: Question on regulator and BCD

Gary you must have a very good back! In addition to my Ranger I have a good quality Scubapro Classic Sport BC. It's a high floatation, non-integrated jacket style BC. I really want to use it, but...

Re: Question on regulator and BCD

As to the issue of back inflate systems floating you face down on the surface, that's a legitimate concern. About 21 years ago my department issued us Zeagle Ranger BCD's. Until then we were all...

Re: Lots of urchins...

Never tried to eat urchin, but I've been told that due to the massive over population there's very little to eat in the little purple guys. Prior to our arrival they had an "urchin rodeo" in one of...

Re: Lots of urchins...

I know how you feel. My sons and I saw lots of abs on most of our dives. Very unsettling seeing numerous good sized abalone and knowing that I'll probably never be able to harvest one again in my...

Re: Lots of urchins...

Gary,
Sadly, abalone season is closed throughout California. I spoke to one diver who was just told by a game warden that they don't plan to open the season again for at least 10 years.

Lots of urchins...

Just got back from our annual family vacation to Fort Brag. Dove a number of shore locations from Mendocino to Mackerricher and have to say there's even less kelp and more little purple urchins than...

Re: Setup for Pathos Laser Open Carbon

Not that I'm in the market for another gun right now, but out of curiosity, where would one find such a gun at that price? I looked online but couldn't find anything like that at that price....

Well actually, a freediver was hit in Carmel a few years ago. He was torn up pretty badly but survived.

Re: "Slosh" suit cleaner?

Hi Robert!
Well if it's been working for you and hasn't damaged suits, I'll keep using it. Got a ton of it left.

By the way, Josh loves that suit he got from you. As a matter of fact, it just...
