Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle

Great progress so far, you're on track I'd say! Going to be a solid gun.

Re: Cheap 5mm wetsuit recommendations?

Ended up going with a nautilus 5 mil. Not exactly cheap but should be a good suit.

Re: How much curve can I plane from a blank

You'll need to joint and plane the blank after curing it for several weeks. Planing (with an electric planer) will only mirror the the opposite side so it won't remove the curve. Jointing will...

WTB Hecs bluewater suit size large

I want your large hecs bluewater suit please! Message me if you're interested in selling. Would also consider a different suit but probably needs to be 5mm. Bluewater camo preferred.

Re: Managing Shooting Line - On Spare Shafts Or For Traveling

Great idea on the cable wrap conduit. I'm leaving on a trip in a few weeks and actually have some of that exact conduit in my shop so I'll be using that for sure.

Cheap 5mm wetsuit recommendations?

I'm going on a February wahoo trip (freediving) and need to get a thicker wetsuit. I don't dive that much in the winter as it is so I don't want to get a fancy wetsuit, just something under $200...

Re: Harassed by a shark: a dilemma

This is definitely something divers and spearo's are facing more and more. In the Gulf of Mexico we run into bull sharks all the time, and what we noticed was that some of these sharks are actually...

Re: Third build, 42 inch mid handle

Really well done. How did you do the butt pad? By hand? A straight trim router bit will give you a really clean transition from wood to pad. The inlay is excellent, did you use a router and a...

Re: Trigger safeties: To have or not to have

The point is that it happens accidentally. Obviously nobody points a spear at their buddy on purpose, but even the best spearfishermen in the world do it every once in a while. Because when chaos...

Re: Trigger safeties: To have or not to have

Safeties are important because spearfishing can be such a chaotic environment. When your buddy is fighting a fish and you're swimming up to help him out and the seas are rough and now a shark just...

Re: Multi-wood Handle Oil Finish

As long as the woods are at a good low moisture level you should be fine. If they're still holding moisture the lams might try to come apart. I've done cedar and black locust for a handle before,...

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

Thanks, yeah this is definitely the best I've ever done on ballasting, especially for such a big gun. Probably my favorite part.

But as far as the setup goes, the more I shoot it and the more I...

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

Here are what some practice shots look like:

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

So you think 3x 14.5mm bands @ 340% will kill a big yellowfin? I'd be open to changing bands because this thing does have a good kick to it which makes accuracy difficult on long shots. If I...

Re: Muzzle repair advice - wood gun

I agree, clean the crack out the best you can, countersink the screws (stainless for sure) with a good strong epoxy in the crack and in the screw holes, then cover the screw heads up either with wood...

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

I thought more about what you said and repowered it. I also got more accurate numbers after the shaft finally arrived.

Updated band info is: Regular ID 16mm rubber @ 315% stretch. I think this...

Re: 51" rear handle twins (Gun porn, NSFW)

I like the taper on the body of the gun, did you use a hand plane?

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

Sure, the bands are not tied yet because I still have to de-rig and ballast. Just got too excited about taking photos. The gun weighs 7.8lbs with no shaft unballasted, will weigh 10.55 without...

Re: Mahogany 150 Tuna Gun

Thanks man, I would have actually liked to do a colored track but I was in such a hurry to build this gun for a trip I have in 2 weeks that I didn't want to wait for the coloring to come in. It does...
