Update to the update: Today, there was a large quantity of bluefin southwest of SCI, 18 to 25 miles below Pyramid Cove...Cove is open for the weekend..still yellowtail on the paddies off...

Ironically, this morning was flat as glass...N/W winds canceled out the S/E Santa Anas for lake-like conditions. While walking the Long Beach bluff, wife and I could see the creases in the mountains...

...Catalina has slowed down with some scattered yellowtail up at the west end...some good marlin just off the east end...a few Yellowfin a couple miles down from the east end...Best news is the jumbo...

They have been speared but, conditions are usually bad to worse, with green water. If I recall correctly, there was a run a few miles off the Cen Cal coast wherein some jumbo size albies were...

Don't forget to check to see what parts of the island are closed due to Naval operations...you don't want to be running the channel back to Catalina in late afternoon or evening if you can avoid...

aaah, a ballast pile would show the site of a possible Spanish shipwreck....found a pile once off the west end of Catalina while commercial diving abalone out deep....never could find them again....:(

Haven't dove up there for years, but, when we did, we made sure to have plenty of anchor chain and rope and a good high powered battery light...the wind can come up over top of the mountains and blow...
