Re: Breath hold

Young divers are impatient by nature, they want to double their time by tomorrow when they are going spearing. Bless them for the enthusiasm they bring the sport. However, improving a breath hold...

Re: Pool Samba

Some useful guidelines when training divers.

A Samba or BO dive IS a failed dive. So long as you have good dive buddies, then that is all it is. A lot can be learned from it. But never make it OK...

Re: Pool Samba

I agree with all you say about the safety side of pool training.

But one point you may have neglected is that a samba is a "fail". It means you didn't manage the dive well. Great you had a buddy...

Re: what to do if swb or samba occurs

Don't worry about getting the diver out of the water. It will take too long. As soon as his airways are out of the water, that is when you get busy. Mask off and tell them to breathe. It goes: Talk,...

Re: what to do if swb or samba occurs

Great that you got so much out of this video. When I was president of North Shore Underwater Club I asked Erez Beatus, Freediving Instructor from Israel to brief our club on the subject of Sambas and...

Re: Freediving... What a drag!!!

Great video. Very important stuff for freedivers. A few of us in Sydney Freedivers have been experimenting with bi-fins material and technique and what we have been seeing is very much the subject of...

Re: Moving past 75 meters in the pool

Hi,
You have to be careful what you ask for as a spearo. Because getting past that 100m mark usually means you have to overcome your urge to breathe and this can be a fatal liability for a spearo,...

Re: co2/o2 tables

I have come across someone who not only didn't experience contractions, they didn't experience any discomfort or the urge to breathe, they reported only feeling better and better the further they...

Re: co2/o2 tables

I don't think one set of tables, with unchanging times is going to get you constant gains. Like most athletic training, you need to change it regularly to keep the body changing. If you keep it the...

Re: Sydney Freedivers 2012

Thanks. Yeah, the production company name was a bit of a laugh, just so long as it doesn't produce them.

It takes a bit of persistence to push such a group together but once it is rolling and...

Re: Hi everyone

Hey there. You are in Sydney by the sound of it. Pyrmont is a Sydney suburb. I suggest you connect up with North Shore Underwater Club. The person to contact is Chi, he is at: chi.shurn.lo@gmail.com...

Re: Hands Free equalization?

Not everyone can do this method, it appears it depends on some physical attribute. However when we have run our Equalisation Workshop we have found about 30% can get something happening on the day....

Re: stiffest fin

I suggest you study up on finning. Manual of Freediving is a good start. Then try many different fins before you buy. The idea of stiff fins being the best has come down through time from when the...

A Golden Moment

The golden trevally is probably the best eating trevally. When we can't find our target fish and it is a bit quiet we will occasionally take them. They make great Thai fish cakes or curry:

A...

Re: Float Lines?...

Ha ha ha... got to look cool.

In Australia much of the diving is done where there is boat traffic and I don't know what it is like in the US but here in Australia the boaties don't look, or can't...

I suggest you consult the Manual of Freediving by Umberto Pelizzari and Stefano Tovaglieri. The correct finning technique and most obvious errors are contained in that book.

Incorrect fin...

Re: sinus squeeze

H2ocaver gives good advice. Stay clear of all the meds. Most of them increase heart rate and will decrease your ability to dive.

Usually your sinuses inflame because there is a mucous blockage...

Re: Diving deeper

The urge to breathe is the result of increased CO2 in the blood. Anything that burns less oxygen and therefore creates less CO2 has to be handled as an immediate way to increase your breath hold....

Re: Spearfishing and Freediving Training

There is no doubt about it, negative training (exhale diving) is good for apnea ability. But as in most sports if you train one area and only one area the results will slow or disappear. We have...

Re: Get Jack

Yeah, that shark followed us all day, but we didn't loose any fish to him.

The spot was about 16 metres... just over 50ft.
