Re: OBX Bluewater Trip

Seen a couple of Cuberas while on scuba out of Hatteras. Usually down inside the wrecks though (at around 100ft). Both occasions the fish was easily over 60lbs. Last time I had to react real quick...

Re: North Carolina spearing charter

You'll need to hit the deep ledges at around 120ft+ for what you're after - they're about 2.5 hours out. Best with a 6 pack. Not much good weather in the forecast. Olympus & Discovery have 6...

If you scuba I'd be up for a trip. Have plenty of GPS numbers for inshore wrecks.
Would recommend using a coil lanyard instead of the usual mono wrap. Much better for poor visibility, and speeds...

Re: Spade and triggerfish

Should thin out as October rolls through, and water cools. Should be plenty of flounder out there now - just have to look hard!

Re: New to VA Beach

A lot of spearing done on scuba as the vis kinda sucks. Better vis down in NC, but some of the wrecks are pretty deep - so tend to stick with scuba rather than freediving.

Re: Red Snapper mini-season opening

Went out of Hatteras this Friday - dove the Tarpon (30ft bottom vis), Proteus (80ft vis) & Monahan (40ft vis). Only luck was on the Proteus. Plenty of Reds there, but Sand Tigers everywhere. Put a...

Re: Oct 6 - Porta Allegra & Normania (NC)

Thanks for the response and advice.

Figured the lift bag to the surface would be good on a boat not anchored - or even a boat anchored without the usual lead line and hang bar. That way you can...

Went out of Morehead last Saturday on the Olympus (25 divers - extended trip) - not advertised as a spearing trip, but a few lobster catchers on board.

Seas were flat and plenty of sunshine - one...

Re: Thursday 3/16/12

Also tried the 4th/ High Rise and even the concrete ships yesterday on scuba. 53F top to bottom temp, but with only 2ft of vis. Didn't see anything - except lots of particulate clouding the water!...
