Re: Good spearfishing RIB??

Yeah a 50hp would be perfect. I have been in an inflatable that couldn't plane on the way back because of a few fish we picked up, and it was fine but I was really glad the weather and visibility...

Re: Good spearfishing RIB??

I would not want to try to cross with that 15. With 2 guys, few fish and even a tiny but of chop, it would probably top out at 6mph.

Re: Bright orange snot After Diving?

I guess I am in the minority, but I just use tap water. I figure the ocean water that regularly gets jammed up my nose surfing is a bigger risk. I realize a two people died in 2011, but more people...

Re: So_cal Spiny Lobster

Have you guys ever been night diving and had hundreds of giant worms swarm at you from all directions? I assume they are attracted to the light. This only happened to me once.

Re: For the vegans here

I don't think my g/f would like this, as they seem to be trying to emulate the taste and texture of real fish which she finds grody. She is the cheapest sushi date evar...avocado rolls all the way.

distract them with the light just in front of them with one hand and come in from behind and grab them with the other. Most important thing, in my opinion, is to not hesitate.

Also, if you are...

Re: Newb question and I need to hear peoples stories.

Dungees will nip, but man, rock crabs have incredible crushing power. On a local pier, I saw one snap a guy's fishing rod.

Re: Anyone have a tank for lobsters?

You might want to check and see if you need some kind of permit. I would not be surprised if you need a permit to keep a fish or bug alive you already caught legally in CA:rolleyes:. Of course it's...

Re: Stripers around Monterey

They are not really that hard to find. I have seem many and shot a couple last year as a novelty. From my experience the CA ones do not take too much skill. It's more of a matter of diving where they...

Re: Channel Islands: Big Bugs, Big Sheep, Lost Gun

I agree with floatlines being a hassle in thick kelp especially. I've had plenty of tug of war situations, as well as drops cut short when my line snagged. I've also cursed and gotten plenty pissed...

Re: Channel Islands: Big Bugs, Big Sheep, Lost Gun

I appreciate the thought, and I love float lines for the ability to drop your gun to mark a spot. And honestly, not having used reels very much, I fear them jamming and forcing me to either leave the...

Re: Channel Islands: Big Bugs, Big Sheep, Lost Gun

Yeah it was a bonehead move on my part. Part of the problem is that I usually always dive with a floatline since none of my other guns have reels. So sitting a gun on a swimstep is not generally a...

Channel Islands: Big Bugs, Big Sheep, Lost Gun

I left work in SF Thursday at 11AM, met Mikey in Hollister and headed South. We stopped in Santa Barbara at Blue Water Hunter so Mikey could get a light and a mount for his reel and then sat in...

Re: how does a slip tip work?

The mori tip is very nice. You can also get a threaded flopper tip if you want the option to put it on the threaded shaft

Check before you dive...

http://store.openrov.com/collections/frontpage/products/openrov-v2-7-kit

Relax with a beer on the boat while the ROV scouts the bugs and sees if they are crawling.

Re: hoping for a WSB for the new year.

Best advice is be where the fish are.
Sounds stupid, but finding where they are is the hardest part.

Re: 5 days until Children's Pool in La Jolla is "closed to humans" for pupping season

Matt,

I 'm afraid you did not read my post, because the first sentence started with, "I know you are totally joking..."

I thoroughly enjoy all your sarcasm, almost Swiftian in it's rapier-like...

Re: 5 days until Children's Pool in La Jolla is "closed to humans" for pupping season

I know you are totally joking, and are not actually advocating anyone do this to the seals pupping at CP, but keep in mind that this a publicly viewable forum, and anything you post can be taken out...
