Re: Recreational Harvest of Hogfish in South Atlantic Waters Closes on August 24, 201

Too easy to back door the fish with no paperwork. Not sayin all do, but I know that it is going on. Not fair to recs. I do not believe that recs harvested more Hogfish than comms here in GA. There...

Re: Our Florida Reefs - Possible No-Take MPA Zones

They singled us out & kicked us out of Grays Reef! Fishermen threw us under the bus! They cheered right along with us until NFS said " Well what if we just eliminated spear-fishing?"
WE WERE...

Re: Spearing charter out of Savannah?

Conditions off-shore are pretty dismal right now because of tidal conditions & dredging at the Savannah River Channel.Viz on anything less that 30 miles out or less than 130fsw doesn't look...

Re: Anyone spearing out of Savannah?

We dive out of Tybee Island just about every weekend. Conditions in late Sept & early Oct are usually crappy, so we use the time to maintain the boat. We mostly dive Pilothouse boats with diesels....

Re: Hogfish Closure 8/24/2015 ?

Filet & release. It says no harvest or posession of fish. Doesn't say anything about cutting filets off before releasing.

Re: Hogfish Closure 8/24/2015 ?

Ha! Ha! Not likely unless the Dolphin tours slow down. Between boat problems Captain troubles & WAY too many tourists!
Soon maybe. Probably October.

Re: Hogfish Closure 8/24/2015 ?

I understand how it works. But for most rec guys in smaller (30'-25')boats, alot of factors have to line up for us to get out to 100+ feet of water. In a 16 knt diesel boat, we have to run for nearly...

Re: Hogfish Closure 8/24/2015 ?

Commercial harvest is still open with no trip limits & no size limit. Figure that s**t out!? We are just starting to see them come in for our area & they shut it down! We have dove all year waiting...

Re: Recreational Harvest of Hogfish in South Atlantic Waters Closes on August 24, 201

In GA we WILL NOT comply with the closed fishery on Hogfish. We WILL NOT be muscled into BS regulations that are contrary to what we see off of our coast. If the fishery is in peril, ALL harvest...

Re: Recreational Harvest of Hogfish in South Atlantic Waters Closes on August 24, 201

We have to run out 30 to 35 miles to get to em. Our days at sea are way less than FLA. We have been pushing aside hoards of GIGANTIC BLACK SEA BASS( mean little bastards too) and massive Red Snapper....

Re: Recreational Harvest of Hogfish in South Atlantic Waters Closes on August 24, 201

It says "recreational harvest". Does that mean that commercial harvest will continue?

Re: Offshore Savannah 07/11/2015 & 07/12/2015

Yes. I think it is shown on the charts as the North Savannah Snapper Banks, the South Savannah Snapper Banks, & the Middle Savannah Snapper Banks. The vis has been great but I am afraid the cold...

Offshore Savannah 07/11/2015 & 07/12/2015

Great weather for diving this past weekend with fairly decent seas & phenomenal viz!
Saturday saw us at the KC Reef first. A little bumpy with 10 feet of viz. We bagged a couple of Flounder & headed...

Re: Need 1 diver tomorrow 6/14 Savannah

Vis was a snotty 5 to 8 feet at best around the Anchor Ledge & the CCA. Same on the L-reef. Coal ship was 3 to 5 feet. With the tides springing, I'd hate to have to hang onto a 100 foot deep ledge...

Savannah Offshore 8/17/2012

We had a good time diving off of Savannah yesterday, in spite of the wind & seas. NOAA's prediction of one foot seas did not hold up for long. The ride out wasn't too bad, but the return trip was...

Re: Federal panel: Allow limited red snapper fishing

Don't know how it is in Ocala, but here, off the coast of Georgia, the only thing more plentiful than RS are the Black Sea Bass. We also don't get as many opportunities to fish as Fla. fishermen. So,...

Re: Federal panel: Allow limited red snapper fishing

If the biomass is so low, there should be no commercial harvest. We get one & they get 100 lbs per trip? Multiple trips per day? Recs eat another big turd!

Re: Feds consider allowing limited red snapper fishing

But the council is leaning towards giving access to Charter/headboats & not the general public.
They are also considering a stamp or separate license fo fish in the Snapper/Grouper complex.

Re: Looking to get out on the water, Savannah area

The biggest problem here is that the vis in 30 or 40 fsw is only 3 to 5 feet most of the time. Vis doesn't improve until you get out past 60'. SCUBA is almost a necessity to dive here.

Re: SAFMC Bringing back catch shares and restrictions on powerheads

Red Snapper not there yet? We are seeing RS in places that we never have before. We used to have to run 35 miles out to the Snapper Banks to see one. NEVER in less than 90 fsw. Now they are...

Sorry for not clarifying. Also, this is not an attack on anyone. Just an opinion & you know what they say about those.
I am not against sustainable fisheries. Just the widespread use of the phrase...

Re: SAFMC Bringing back catch shares and restrictions on powerheads

Those are the goals of SAFA. I just posted the information from their web site for anyone not familiar with their group.
I expect charter/headboats to get first crack at ARS.

Re: SAFMC Bringing back catch shares and restrictions on powerheads

Scary thought, 5 to 4 vote. Seems we just can't get out from under this CS crap. They intimidate us with short seasons & low ACL's hoping we will beg for Catch Shares. I thought they were ordered by...
