Re: 2018 Lessons Learned Dive Safe

This is an old one but a great reminder for any new divers.

NEVER DIVE WITHOUT A SHARP DIVE KNIFE

I dive as much as possible when clear at the jetties and I can list about 5 times I could’ve been in serious trouble if it wasn’t for my knife. Just last month I took a small dive shot a good sheepshead. The sheepshead came up with about 30 ft of 40lbish braid....turned south really quick as swell and fish combined wrapped the whole mess around both legs and torso tight. Took a couple of good hits on the rocks as I was pushed into them. I was able to grab my knife and start cutting for more freedom of movement and gain control of the situation.

Even simple jetty dives can turn dangerous in a heartbeat. Be geared up properly. Dive with a buddy. The prerequisite for any diving should also be a solid comfort level. Never panic...always rely on your training and tools.

Stay safe fellas!
