A man was found at the bottom of an apartment complex pool and was later declared dead at a hospital, St. Petersburg police said.

About 11:15 a.m. Sunday, police got a call about a drowning victim at Brandywine Apartments, 1609 68 St N., and police and Fire Rescue responded.

Emergency workers found an unidentified white male in his 30s, who had been pulled from the pool by a resident who found the victim lying at the bottom, police said.

The man was taken to St. Petersburg General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A witness said they had seen the victim swimming earlier and that the victim had commented to the witness about betting on how long he could swim under water, police said. The witness declined the bet and left the area.

Officers are trying to identify the victim. There are no indications of foul play, police said.
