Re: Cabinet Refacing
Not sure what you are looking for, but Studio Europa in San Diego is incredible. They do incredible custom cabinetry work. Kinda of pricey, but actually priced well for what they do. I imagine just refacing wouldn't be too much. Marcus is the guy you want to talk to. If you are looking for sort of run of the mill, refacing companies, you can find cheaper. Just not sure what you are looking for.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
I'd be interested in this too, in the OC area. I have wood cabinets that that my wife would like painted white. I'd do it myself, but I'm afraid the wood grain would show through the paint.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
Wood grain show through the paint? Just take your time by prepping ( sanding very smooth) then use a good quality primer and paint. Refacing with paint and new hardware ain't that hard, it just takes time.

You need a waterborne enamel or a waterborne urethane. You will likely need to get it at a shop who works with cabinet building/ specialty. A good bet is to talk to Drew or Rich at Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana. Tell them Paul Romanowski from PHR sent you, and explain what you are looking to do. Or, PM me and I can take a look at it for you.

Re: Cabinet Refacing
Hey JHILL528,I am a Painting Contractor and get this question all the time, Reface or Paint?? It depends on what look you want to acheive?? If you see the super smooth grain Ikea(poplar)Cabinets and thats what look you want, then Reface the face frames and get new cabinet Doors/drawers. If your cabinets are oak YOU WILL ALWAYS SEE GRAIN IF YOU PAINT THEM!! I have done many cabinet jobs and there is never an easy fix for oak!! I have even skimmed em' out with bondo to get rid of the grain. I normally recommend a Laquer Paint for durability, but you have to spray it on to get a decent finish. Paul is right on the enamel !! Dunn Edwards Perma Sheen is a very durable h20 based enamel. You can also get the grain to work to your advantage by "antiqueing" the cabinets with glaze over your topcoat look up images for "antique cabinet finishes" for look. Hope this helps!! -Russ
