Calling all Spearos....Time to Smash Lake Trout

Anyone want to come join me for a Lake trout Record..... I am planning on smashing the world record lake trout / splake records... As I see it we have only a couple months left to do this in Utah... It seams that the hook and line guys want to push for a ban on spearfishing in Utah... They are out for a witch hunt and we are their target... We have until the end of Novermber to spearfish in Utah... This year...

My plan is to go every weekend to either flaming gorge Res. or Fish lake and shot the biggiest fish I can find.

Who is up for it???

Re: Calling all Spearos....Time to Smash Lake Trout

That sounds fantastic and if I wasn't stuck in Iowa finishing my national boards I'd be there (especially since I couldn't make the rest of the R.M. Spearo Series which I deserve a ration for). I don't think people rationally think about all that goes into the spearing in a cold ass lake, holding your breath for any time amount at 9000ft, and all the rest that goes into such a accomplishment. Even the research to figure thigs out to the optimal is enough keep most lost.

Most spearo's don't enjoy the thought of the ice cream headache only going away because the numbness sets in much less the ENTIRE rest of the world. Hell, most people don't even understand the physical shape needed to paddle around for 30 minutes much less 6 hours. But I guess nothing like having something taken away as the result of a "typical gotta listen to the whiners and not the numbers" knee-jerk reaction.

Last test for me though and you can count on dealing with me a good bit more in the mountain country James. I did get to Flaming Gorge and smashed some big carp and some nice smallies. Also got some trout and a decent 5x5 elk with my recurve all which I need to post some photos of.

Smoke a bigg'in for me.

Fisher, there are trout all over that lake, rainbows and brookies are closest to the road, and the weedline is very productive for suckers. The Lake and Splake trout are a little deeper (25-30') and about 30 feet away from the weedline.

I think Duke is talking about another kine of weed line. He gets them mixed up sometimes.

I was kidding about mine sleeping they were actually laying eggs or something while I picked them off one by one.

No, really they were like Justin said, about 20-30 feet of water and 15-30 feet off weedline. They were definitely swimming fast and had plenty energy. I had my reel over halfway emptied twice. Dont be fooled by those idiots who think they were laying on the bottom in 4 feet of water in groups of 100+. You will have to hunt them and if you are going to Fish Lake say good bye to your bottom time. Mine was cut down by 3/4's easily.
Good luck and watch out for crazy Mack fanatics/radicalist!

If taking large fish is really the problem, the H & L club needs to push for slot limits. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. I get the impression some people think that a fish taken and kept by H & L is somehow less dead than one taken by spear. Strange but true.
