Question about rolle guns? How are they different than overloaded 2 band guns?

I shoot a standard 2 band closed track wood speargun but I'm thinking about trying out a roller gun. I have one question that maybe one of you has figured out.

So the roller gun has the advantage of adding more power because the bands push the shaft farther down the barrel. On my current regular 2 band gun if I want more power I can shorten the bands or I can increase the band size. From everything I know doing this can be a problem even with closed track because of shaft whip.

So how is this more power achieved on a speargun with the same barrel length without the issue of shaft whip? I'm assuming power = shaft speed and the shaft size in a 110 roller gun is the same size as a 110 2 band gun.

Re: Question about rolle guns? How are they different than overloaded 2 band guns?

I'll take a shot at the short reply, which is sure to get a response from all the physics majors out there. Power does equate to speed, but it's about the time period in which the energy is released. The energy from a conventional gun is released in a very short time period, so the acceleration occurs very rapidly. If there is enough energy, the shaft isn't stiff enough for the rear end to push the front end without the shaft bending, or "whipping". With a rg the band goes over the roller and under the gun, so it's much longer for almost the same energy. The acceleration of the shaft takes place over a longer distance, and over a longer time period, however, so the shaft doesn't exceed it's limits and bend, or "whip". That's also why you get a "punch" felt recoil with a conventional gun, and a "push" felt recoil from a rg. The total recoil energy is the same, but the "felt" recoil is very different
