Spearfishing Winchester Bay or out of Charleston

Hello Spearo's - I am coming over from Reno, NV to meet up with a friend for some salmon fishing and crabbing. I was also planning to bring my spearfishing gear for potential lings and rock fish. My buddy is strictly a boat fisherman (he is 68 years old) but said he could drop me off for an hour and then come back to pick me up (what a nice guy he is....lol!!) Since he nor I have any diving knowledge of those areas, I am hoping to get some info from you experienced spearo's. Like where to drop me off and what should I be cautious of. Reading over the past post, I know currents are a big factor. It looks like the jetty might be a good spot to hit, but there may be other areas which might offer better opportunities. Anyways, any and all info pm'd would be greatly appreciated. I am also open to hook up with anyone who would like to join. Take care.
