Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Is the general wisdom that to hit gags you should be double banded bc they don't let you get close enough?

No, Not at all, 1 band at the proper length in relation to your gun is plenty

Good luck - should be gorgeous weather and conditions. Hit small relief ledges in 30-45 feet for your best chance at nice hogfish - they are EVERYWHERE.

Viz 25' horizontal on top, hazy 8' on the bottom in 42fsw 6.5 miles WSW out of Longboat pass today. Lots of red grouper in shallow now(some nice ones) and flounder spawning. Saw a few large females that had 5-6 males each on their tails. Big sheep too. Everything fearless and friendly since I didn't have a gun.(work dive). Except a few skittish gags. Mangos were small.

Shallow day off Anclote. Super fishy, although we did have a 7’ Tiger shark sighting!

Water temp 67-69. Flat calm seas and top to bottom Bahamas green vis.

We crushed the gags and got a few nice hogs. My buddy shot a nice kingfish which ended up as crab bait in my stone crab traps.

Back at the dock by 2pm.

Have you noticed, as have I, that lately there is an explosion of hogs everywhere, and many are very nicely sized - much bigger than I've seen on average in the past few years?

Yes. I think it’s red tide recovery. The reefs all all healthy and tons of baby hogs. And tons of 11-13 inch females running around.

I have yet to find a keeper female with the new 14” size limit. I hope they start getting bigger and hopefully more turn to males. Next year will be interesting to see if our Gulf stock lengths increase over time.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Hey guys! Went to the poker room Saturday night at the dog track in Sarasota. Stayed up till 3 am and won $380! Then got up Sunday at 8 and went out 11 miles wsw of bean point. Shot some hogs a king and a gag. Water was dark green, but viz was good! Could barely make out rock and ledges on the bottom. Viz was solid 35ft vertical 15-20 horizontal. Temp was 70*. Tides were slow... We were tired, but our luck never ran out Sunday!

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Saturday 12/2 off Hudson between 25 and 50 feet. Viz was great until late afternoon. Was TTB for awhile and I could pick out my fish from the surface freediving in 50 feet. Was on a commercial boat. Shot multiple gags, large mangroves, a red, a flounder, and some hogs. Was a really fun day. Hoping they open triggers again soon as I saw multiple dinner plate-sized triggers.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

And there goes the vis, down the crapper.

Went to Pasco 1 today, 3-5’ seas and surge. Particulate from top to bottom. Maybe 6’ Viz on the bottom. Maybe.

Time to break out the 5mm wetsuit. And the golf clubs!!
