Spearfishing in Islamorada????

We are going to Islamorada in a couple of weeks for some fishing, diving, lobstering and hopefully spearfishing. I heard rumor that Spearfishing is not allowed in Islamorada? Does anyone know if this is true or where the spearfishing is prohibited?
Thanks,
Pierre

You must be 3 miles(federal waters) out if you are north of Long Key. South of Long Key doesnt matter, just stay away from the Sanctuary Parks.

Cindy...would you be willing to share your grouper number with a discreet spearfisher? I only go to Islamorada 1x per year (have been going for 36 years) and hit the standard reefs 3 miles from shore...looking for something a little deeper with structure if you feel able to share.
