Nassau Grouper breeding

I read about a closed season on Nassau's in the Bahamas a few years back that may (hard time getting actual data) still be in effect. It banned hunting over part of the winter for breeding reasons.

I have seen A LOT of posts with people saying any hunting of Nassau Grouper in the Bahamas is illegal outright. I have not seen that anywhere even remotely official looking.

What the heck is the actual reg on this?! Thanks in advance.

Re: Nassau Grouper breeding

There is an off season for Nassau grouper due to there spawning.
the protected season starts December 1st and ends on March 1st there are also areas that are protected during there spawn season to prevent pressuring them while they are spawning. since they have been out of season I have been seeing them everywhere. Click image for larger version

Re: Nassau Grouper breeding

I know in the past they have extended the opening a month because the Nassau groupers were doing really well but they have not since I think that was in 2009 after they ban the harvest of turtles.
