how come when volunteers patrolled the border they were called vigilantes and the news made a huge deal about. Now they are praising them for patrolling against US citizens not law breaking criminals.

If you have received a pink sticker on your kayak or other vessel, contact the reporter who wrote this article. He wants to write a followup on the tactics the citizen patrols are using.

Some arse clown from Wildcoast that was too spineless to sit upright in his chair (1st row of audience) - spoke last night for 2 minutes during the public's open comment period of my neighborhood's (north 92109) - local planning group meeting.

He claimed to be pro ocean and pro environment - and was soliciting volunteers to patrol our local SMCA - he was really driving home the cub and boy scout patrols as well as student patrols - yay - 8 yr old Wolf scouts doing the job of trained LEO's - awesome idea - ...putz

I waned to puke - but I guess even he has 1st ammendment rights

I see another George Zimmerman-style nightmare coming from some busy body econ-nut "patrolling" the ocean.

Source: My van was vandalized at CP. My truck got a nice dent from someone kicking it at one of the MLPA meetings (spearfishing sticker kinda gives it away).

Lesson learned; Never put dive stickers (or anything else that IDs you as a waterman) on or visible in your vehicle.

Enviro Nazis aside, Stickers on vehicles show that; "Im in the water and my wallet and keys are probably inside"

I learned that one the hard way, but it had to happen twice before I caught on.

Practice Stealth in all things of the sea !

Anything ever come of this? I have been in the fishing the "areas" since they closed down and have had zero issues.

Re: LA Times: Volunteers to help patrol new marine sanctuaries

This next year will see an uptick in enviros entering MPA's because they do not know where else to go. Enforcement also expects poaching to increase as now the MPA's are plugged with game. Please do your part in reporting these possible poachers to DFW, they will most likely respond quickly.
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the payback.

I would like to see documentation of that one, but I would say your are Wrong.
I know I am in Florida..BUT.. they have stopped and searched Sailboats (that had No Fishing or diving gear) that were coming back into the harbor.
I believe Fish and Game Do have the right to board and search your vessel.
And think about it, someone loads up on illegal or over the limit fish, then they transfer it all to a friends Sailboat to be smuggled ashore, and no one can catch them? Fat chance on that one. But regardless if they have the legal right or not, the Coast Guard does! They can stop and search, and detain, ANY vessel, for No reason, you can take that to the bank.
Back to the topic tho..it would be a cold day in hell before some Andy Fife wanna be enviro ever boarded or searched my boat!
