We don't have to deal with such on the W coast of FL but I believe the proper response was to request passengers to move forward on the boat, hang on, and move slowly directly thru the wave, accelerating in between waves until getting beyond the danger, yes?

Re: Boynton Inlet

I think the passengers would be told to hang on and not go to the front of the boat where they would more likely be tossed out. Those kinds of conditions would far exceed my comfort level or boat handling abilities.

Re: Boynton Inlet

He was pot commuted at that point, should have pressed on. In my younger years we picked a really bad day to try to run out of Clearwater Pass in a 20 ft. boat. Nothing like those inlets on the East coast, but on this particular day the pass was violent. Nevertheless, I knew I had to suck it up and get through before turning around to get back. Making the turn in the pass gives too little room for error, as this guy found out by taking that wave to his quarter. He might have been okay had he straightened her out before the wave.
