Re: blue fin
Just attach the float line to your big toe. It'll work a lot better to slow the blue fin down. They stop pulling when they feel toe pressure.
Seriously!!

Re: blue fin
Sir,
Have you ever caught a bluefin on hook and line? I have and I predict tying a weight belt on a 350 lbs. bluefin would be parallel to stopping an aircraft carrier with a drift anchor...it may eventually stop it but he will be miles away. Bluefins make a wahoo look like a pinfish, pound for pound, and strength for strength. But if you try it...I wish you the best of luck and stay safe.

Re: blue fin
Bluefins are a big prize off the coast of NC where they come in close during the winter. Most captains chunk or troll horse ballyhoo for these monsters. And look at it this way...the drag on the reel is usually set at 20-35 lbs and these fish have been known to scream off 200-300 yards of line when they strike. It is awesome! It is still far from over. After 3 hours, we ended up 7 miles from where the fish was hooked. Powerful fish, man!
Captains on the Outer Banks of NC will chunk and "lock down" the reels...trying to break records on how much time they can bring a monster to the boat...but this is very controversial...as some say the released fish quickly die from exhaustion. This thread is getting off topic...spearing super big fish takes a lot of practice and preparation and more practice... to keep it safe...and adding a weight belt to a float line just doesn't sound safe to me...and if the objective is to tire out the fish quicker...enough said!

Re: blue fin
That's what the crew on "Jaws" thought too. Remember what happened to that wise, seasoned and know-it-all skipper? Man, did he ever get more "seasoning"!!!
