Slip tips - How many do you have?
1. How many slip tips do you own?
2. Do you have one for every shaft you own? Bending a shaft seems to be much less likely when using the slip tip, so I think it's more likely you'd loose the whole rig. My only applicable experience resulted in the shooting line failing, and loosing the shaft and tip together. |

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
I have tons of slip tips ... but I just can't get myself to use one in a hunting situation. You just lose too much accuracy with a conventional slip tip. If shooting large fish at close range, a slip tip dramatically increases your chances of landing your fish. Accuracy of a slip tip needs to be addressed and there are some good solutions.

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
I've tried a lot of slip tips over the years. Mori with spectra is only way to go very accurate tip, the rest can't compare.
My experience is Mori is as accurate or even more so then a flopper. Only tip to use for wahoo IMO.

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
The Mori slip tip is accurate and has perfect fitting, but it still is not as accurate as the most accurate floppered shaft or the welded Mori custom shaft. You can see a test I did a few years ago ... testing many different slip tips. I do have a slip tip that can beat all the ones tested in the video but need to find a way to make it cost effective.

the ultimate is so light - i think it is titanium or aluminum it is literally 1/6th the weight of the mori dart the gannett - i dont own but it looks to be the most streamlined and thinnest of them all 'the mori is very well machined but is very fat and quite heavy i have one and it works well - but my spearmaster has killed around 25 wahoo without issue. riffe icepick is the worst at throwing the shot off - in my opinion the mini ice pick is ok i just wondered if you every tried the ultimate one- its so light that - unless the cable or dyneema is veering the shot- it should be quite accurate. sorry to derail the thread its kindof relevant though no? I have about 12 in the shop but for my personal use - i got 4- 2 spearamsters 1 mori and 1 ultimate

If you haven't seen the new Sea Sniper slip-tip you should check it out. It is very streamlined and milled out of solid stainless, no welded on tab.

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
The Ulitmate Slip Tip is one of the slip tips I tested and it did not do well at all. It was veering offline causing poor accuracy and poor penetration. I think it is cast SS and have actually seen several versions from europe that look almost identical ... not sure who came up with the initial design, but I don't think it is a good slip tip for long range accurate shooting.

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
X2, I prefer the Maverick-America version though. Both identical to the eye but the Maverick is a lot easier to replace spectra on

Re: Slip tips - How many do you have?
Yeah ... the pin to put the spectra on is one area I think can be done better. This can be contoured nicely with a 3D design ... once metal 3D printing becomes more affordable I can see those tips being 3D printed. I am thinking to do one in 3D and have a mould made so it can be precision investment cast ... you could also shape the adaptor perfectly so it can eliminate the need for a welded tube ... but the costs involved are astronomical and you would need to sell a bunch to make it cost effective.
