Well if you dont know you might want to 1st check regs to make sure you have proper gear and locations.
As far as what to look for...well lobster would be a good start. They generally live in holes and caves. Maybe look in those.

Large storm system brewing off Hawaii. Keep your eye on the swell. Never fun in shite vis and big waves.

Re: Lobster diving (sandiego/la jolla)

If it is your first time night diving be sure to dive a spot you are comfortable with during the day. A place you know like the back of your hand. May even serve you well to get out just before sunset so you can get yourself refamiliarized with the location when there is light so once the sun goes down you know all the spots.

As far as what to look for, it's not a complete hockey line switch when you go out there. Everything is still in the ocean. Difference is a lot of the things you see during the day go into their hiding spots and make way for the night creatures like lobster, eel, etc.

Thanks Dannowar! Just got a new Lost mini driver so I'm frothing on the upcoming swell. I do want to get some bugs soon though. SpearofDestiny, I'll keep an eye on the swell and pm you sometime soon!

x2 on the visibility and swells. No matter how much I dive I still get sea sick from time to time. At night with poor visibility and swells it's even worse.

Thoughts are check again Thursday afternoon. Things change.

Also be very aware of landmarks that can be seen in the dark to get your exit point right. And have a backup exit point as you might drift a lot on the dive without knowing.

x2 Check the reports daily there is a mixed bag of swell on the way and it could change daily.

What forecast sites do you guys use? I hope not surflie.com lol I swear that site is a conspiracy. Swellwatch.com is my go-to.

Re: Lobster diving (sandiego/la jolla)

i went out last Friday at about 8pm, vis was less than 2 feet, swells were about 3ft. I was already wet, so i stuck to it. Got 2 keepers.

i wouldnt mind going again. especially if conditions are anything better than the last time i was out.
