The Bluefin have Arrived...

...Currently, there is a good mass of bft stretching from 30 miles off San Clemente Island down as far as 200 miles south....Lots of sauries, red crab and finbait is making it tough for the hook and line guys, but, bluefin are being caught that average 20 to 40 lbs, with fish up to 200 pounds on occasion..There are some yellowfin tunnies in the mix also....Jumbo size yellows at SBI and the east end of San Nic....
...In my opinion, your best shot will be just after the coming full moon. The bluefin are more willing to come up to the surface to feed on the baitfish at that time. Lots of yellowtail at the Coronados, with increasing numbers at Catalina and excellent catches along the inside of San Clemente island. Constant offshore winds and crosschop swells are keeping the counts down.
...Rumors of bluefin inside San Clemente Island. Coastal has lots of bait, so, the inshore banks should be going off shortly for pelegics. Good numbers of seabass at the channel islands with big halibut in the mix...
...Some excellent coastal halibut diving currently, with a grunion run ending the 31st. Another great season is shaping up...

Catalina tile sets (collectors stuff) are half price at present in Avalon. Just ordered $1,300 worth of mounted tiles for my collection, including the art deco mermaid that decorates the Casino walls. Check out: IVCatalina.com...shipping is expensive for mounted tiles, so, now, we have a good excuse to launch the Parker and head due west to Avalon for a week over the 4th of July!

Re: The Bluefin have Arrived...

Have been out of the loop, working on boat and gear. As I understand it, the past month was just scattered bft offshore....But, according to the spotter pilots, the current arrivals are in a large mass, covering miles of ocean, so, July should see some good action turn into fantastic fishing. (in between weather fronts).... nice tuna catches by the way!...
