I would say it has a taste more like a makerel but the flesh is simular to a tuna. Deffinately nothing like the ones you describe.

Re: Dog Catcher

I shot him with ol trusty Its an old style RA barrel, Picasso Basik handle, RA muzzle, and an Omer Palagic reel with lots of 2.2mm throw line on it.

As for the camera. A nikon D40 in Ikelite housing. But that didnt work out so well. I thaught maybe tha longer lens would work in the port but it didnt. I shoot in RAW and I tried the best I can to enhance some of the images but I find it hard to see color.

Re: Dog Catcher

Awesome fish, be careful with the ear like that, you can get ringing if you keep forcing it.

Good job!

Well Im going to let out the secret. The dogtooth isnt the greatest table fare but it is a very tough fish to land. I dont really know why it is Some people say cuz they are hard to keep on the shaft because of their very soft flesh, scaleless skin, and their incredible power, as you can see. Its nothing a well patient and accurate shot wont prevent. I saw that fish when I came up from viewing a large Napolean. They fight really dirty, heading for holes, reef, w/e to get that shaft out. Maybe some find it hard to approach them and I often see people with massive guns in many videos/photos to reach them. I dont find this hard at all around here. In fact they are probably the least challenging fish for me to shoot. I have even went to shooting them on reel. Now I do carry the float and line just in case big ones are around.
They are pretty curious and stay around for awhile. Only so often are they in the mood where they just dart by under you never to be seen again. Most of the time you can just get out in the water before high or low tide and are almost granteed to see em. I have found they dont really like murky water. This day (Threads story) was rather dirty and we only saw this one. I think he was lost Oh well for him.
So to answer your statement I really dont know why people find them to be so favored. Maybe its just all the fight. I shoot for the smaller ones when we are on other islands and want to share with the local populous. Also my dive buds wife is Thai and she calls up her friends and do all sorts of stuff with it. Taste to me is irrelivant, I just love to eat I have to get me a set of jaws before I leave though.
