Yeah. My buddies and I use gps all the time. You can actually use a smart phone with a dry sleeve and hang it to your dive float. I recommend you use an old smart phone and buy a nautical map app for $10. Way cheaper than buying a Garmin GPS unit for $200+

Please clarify what while shore diving means. Also do you have access to a vaccuum sealer?

I just bought the Garmin GPSMAP 78sc for $260 on amazon. I haven't had a chance to use it in the water yet but i've looked through the charts and I really like it. The screen refreshes fast when you are scrolling through the charts. The charts show general bottom depth, wrecks, etc. Seems perfect so far

Agreed! God damn! Seeco may be extreme and whatnot, but at least he brings up discussion relevant to our sport. No matter how much I disagree with him.

Really? I never considered a vacuum sealer. Is that tried and true?

deng it shows the depths as well? pretty nice. just got my check got another job so I might pick this one up. the smart phone thing is a good idea too, but seems like a hassle to use in water.

Re: Portable GPS Waypoints

the reason why I do not specify on some of my posts is because I don't want to "burn" myself. This means I don't want others getting or stealing ideas from me.

I try to help other as much as I can. Also, I never will give others inaccurate information or give advise that could be dangerous.

I do not have a vacuum sealer.

Now that you ask, I want to make points on the map where I have found lobsters. straight to the point.
I swim across coves foraging. I don't have many dive buddies because I understand that they all do not like giving up their spots. I'm just learning day by day, little at a time.

I wouldn't mind having trustworthy dive buddies, but nowadays, everyone doesn't keep their mouths shut.

not sure if this response help you mainphrame.

I have a Garmin 78sc and it is bitchen. It comes completely preloaded with depth contours. If you vacuum seal one you should not have any issues unless it would ever get punctured or your bouy goes under. I would use your float and keep it upright at all times. Maby add a 1 lb sink to the bottom of your float to always keep it up right. But if you do get a Garmin from West Marine get the warranty in case your bouy goes under for a good reason. They have the best warranty around and your spots will be safe since you can add a microsd card to the unit.

Also, you can import your movements and waypoints on Google Earth.
