Reports for the LA area?

I'm thinking about hitting the water, but don't want to waste my time. Did anyone go out this morning or last night and have a report?

Re: Reports for the LA area?

Sebastian,

It is HIGHLY advisable not to go into the water for about a week after a large
rain storm, as the bacteria level can and will make you sick as a dog! You could get disintary, skin rashes, ear infections, eye infections, the list goes on and on. But as always, this is a free country! you can do what you want!
But better safe than sorry.

Scotty

Yeah I know, but i was hoping that maybe the sheer volume of rain we had might have helped a little. Its more along the lines of wishful thinking. Thanks for looking out

Of course, some people (Capt Ron) get paid to dive in that stuff. We were on a salvage till 4am last night, and the vis was about 1'. It also looked like my toilet after a really bad Mex trip. Seriously, it's bad don't waste your time.

Re: Reports for the LA area?

Like Scotty said and John rienforced it is a bad idea to dive after heavy rains the vis is usually really bad and the idea of that more rain is better since in theory it would dilute contaminants is not very accurate when there are heavy rains it makes things worse since there is more water running over a larger area bringing down every contaminate on the land down to the ocean. If you think a sinus or ear infection are the worse things you can get use the search function and type mrsa or staph infection.

Re: Reports for the LA area?

Got to get up close and personal with some nasty water (can you say tasted like sewer)

But that was right near the mouth of Alamitos harbor.

If you dive away from the runoff areas you'll be fine! I haven't had too many

problems and I've been diving in some very nasty areas for years. (maybe

I've built up some kind of immunity) It did make my leg fall off though

Yeah, i just got back from checking out the Malaga Cove, wasn't too impressed with what I saw. I didn't get in, but just because I din't feel like getting cold for nothing. Maybe if the rain lets up for a couple days it should make for some interesting fishing as I think some fish and bugs that hunkred down for the storm may come out to feed and see whats new....

I am not to sure about how well the vis will clear up. I have been watching the swell reports and it's looking like high swell for the week. Hopefully it will change.
