Warning!!! Florida bacteria kills man...must read if your in the water.
http://www.weather.com/health/deadly...death-20130930
Warm weather and coastal waters make Florida a prime location for deadly bacteria. These conditions contributed to an unusually high amount of bacterial infections this summer, including*26 cases of Vibrio vulnificus, according to a report*The Daytona Beach News-Journal.The bacteria, considered one of the most deadly in the world, recently caused the death of 59-year-old Henry Konietzky.Konietzky contracted the bacteria after wading through the Halifax River with an open-wound.Similar to the brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri — which*killed a 12-year-old boy in Florida*earlier this year — the bacteria can be very deadly.Konietzky first noticed lesions in his leg hours after he came back from fishing. He arrived at the emergency room with his wife, but the bacteria had already spread. He died less than 48 hours after exposure as a result of kidney failure.Florida’s climate increases the likelihood of Vibrio vulnificus infections, which are*more common in warm coastal waters, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.Florida health officials warn that eating raw shellfish can also expose people to the bacteria.Patients with weak immune systems or open-wounds face a*higher risk of Vibrio vulnificus septicemia, which kills approximately half of infected patients within 48 hours, according to a study published inJAMA Internal Medicine. In 2013, the bacteria have killed a total of nine Florida residents. Symptoms of an infection include fever, chills and decreased blood pressure. ******not trying to scare anyone but if you have any strange symptoms better to get checked out quickly. Dive safe.

Any time we are diving in any canal or interior waterway, we treat it as contaminated for this very reason. We dive exclusively in drysuits in interior waters.

Scary. Brain eating stuff in the stagnant fresh water, and now something just as nasty in the brackish/salt water.
Tony, Im no doctor, but I would think a shot of penicillin might work wonders.....that and staying out of the back of the 801 bar, might let those sores heal up buddy. |
