Re: Ulusub Spearfishing Co. New Speargun Range

I love that Riffe Mag Track. But, I'm pretty sure it's patented, so I can't put one in on this side. Pretty simple to install one though.. Just sink one in about 3/4 depth from the bottom of your gun, and either fill with a dowel or density foam on top. Even hide it under the Line Guide. You need to start with a really good magnet. I been trying to figure out a Magnetic Slip Tip.

my understanding is riffe tried to patent it but it was rejected because there is a existing patent for a magnet on a crossbow . also the use of magnets in speargun tracks by home builders was public domain long before riffe "came up with it on the euro" so any lawsuit would fail in court .

Re: Ulusub Spearfishing Co. New Speargun Range

I thought there would be a patent issue which is why I brought it up but didn't know the history. I would find it hard to believe they would file suit on such a small scale anyways, but who knows, thats not really the point.

Its an incredibly good and simple idea. I might try the modification myself. I'll have to start looking for a proper magnet. Thanks guys.

Neodymium are very powerful magnets. I perform consulting work at a mine (Molycorp) that mines rare earth minerals, Neo is one of them. I have two small magnets that were given to me a few years back (size of a Mike & Ike candy). These magnets are so strong you can barely separate them when they are together.

They quit giving them out cause people were hurting themselves with them. When you try bringing the two magnets together, the magnetic draw is so strong it was catching people off guard and cutting/pinching ends of fingers.

In that case, I would not want Neodymium in my euro... haha

The upside of more powerful is you can go smaller.

Exactly. 1/4 hole max. Possibly smaller. Thats a good thing.

Plus, magnets lose force exponentially over distance so the hole can be drilled more shallow as well with a stronger magnet.

Please do not post the pics yet...the lack of pics is the only thing keeping me from doing bad things to my bank account.

I know...it's inevitable. Just need to decide on the size now. 130-150...
