Re: Cutting Epoxy track parameter
I'm not sure the PDF shown will help all that much. I think it refers to pure graphite, which would have very different machining characteristics than a graphite/ epoxy track, which is mostly epoxy resin. I think a "machining epoxy resin" tutorial would be closer to what you are looking for. I don't machine epoxy tracks, so I can't help much with specifics, but I'd start with a spindle speed of about 2000 rpm and a slow travel speed, then go from there. You can probably go higher on the spindle speed, but I'd keep the travel speed slow. I've found that with plastics the bit tries to pull and deform the plastic. Granted, this is a brittle resin, not a deformable plastic, but it still won't machine like metal.

Re: Cutting Epoxy track parameter
Actually CNC parameter is RPM 15000 feedrate 1.6 inch per sec
1/16 each depth I have tried router with high speed epoxy cut and leave very rough surface with irregular grooves teak cost me a lot Sent from my SM-A320F using Tapatalk |

Re: Cutting Epoxy track parameter
I never pay all that much attention to RPM unless I'm using a huge bit. I keep my Festool Router at 6 or 7 (I believe this is 6000-7000 RPM) and take many shallow passes at a reasonably fast feed rate.
I have noticed that the biggest issue in routing cleanly through epoxy (or exotic or figured hardwoods) is the sharpness and quality of the router bit. The second biggest cause of failure is if there is a less than perfect guide. I make sure the edges I am using for my router guides are perfectly straight and sanded to 360 grit so the guides glide smoothly along when making precise router passes. Any vibration or wiggle can cause irregularities and tear out. Lastly, I use a traditional router with edge guides instead of a router table. This allows me to watch what I'm doing and gives me the option to abort a cut if something isn't going right (it's much easier to fix a small divot then a long shitty cut) |

Re: Cutting Epoxy track parameter
I was thinking of a conventional mill, not a CNC machine. The 15000 rpm is around the same as a router, but the travel speed seems crazy fast. If I were using a router at 15000 rpm, my travel speed would be a lot slower than that. What material were you referring to with the 15000 rpm and 1.6"/sec travel speed. I was also thinking you were doing an enclosed track, where you would have to do it in one pass.
