All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective.

Pole Spear Material Specs

I am currently living in Trinidad and there is not a whole lot of choices for constructing a spear down here but I have found some places with aluminum tubing what diameter, inside and out should I get? They also have solid round bar, is this any better?

What type of hunting are you doing? Reef? Blue water? Big game or small?

Re: Pole Spear Material Specs

It would be reef hunting mainly, and then I would bring it home to the Bahamas when I am done living here in a year.

Re: Pole Spear Material Specs

I would recommend a 3/4 OD with .125 walls. You will need something that can handle one of those big Bahamas grouper that holes up. I would also recommend a tube in an 8 foot length and the use of a slip tip because you are blessed with unbelievable visibility and big fish.

Good luck!
