Advice - Experience

Getting ready to re power a Grady White 240 Offshore (1984). Wondering if adding a bracket will be an asset or create a problem. What if anything will I gain or lose.

Re: Advice - Experience

Gain:

Full Transom (safety)

Extra Deck Space

Swim Platform (depending on what bracket you get)

Increase LOA (can also mean increased berthing fees if you're docked)

If you're upgrading from 2 to 4 strokes you'll likely be adding weight that your transom wasn't designed for, foam filled brackets add flotation.

Lose:

If you fish, some people don't like clearance issues around the motor

You'll likely need to add support braces (thats often the time you find out you have some rot in the transom)

Your wallet will be a couple $K's lighter, even if its just a bolt and go you're looking at +$2K for the bracket alone. Any transom work will make it go up from there

Any changes in performance?
I don't have any of the "other issues".
I don't H&L. Transom has previously been really beefed up. We have mucho deck space being a walk around cuddy.
A little more weight won't matter, we carry 8 - 12 tanks a trip now.

Re: Advice - Experience

I would think you better off to either trade boats or repowed your hull the way it is. You might not like the end results and it sounds like a several thousand dollar project to me.
