12lb hog

We saw cobia this weekend but couldn't keep the shafts in them. Kenny Eppert shot a huge 12lb hog out of West Palm on the Aquahunter. The fish is almost as long as the big white cooler.

Beautiful fish! They usually have to be pretty smart to get that big around here.

Re: 12lb hog

first , great fish , really healthy looking ; is that your spear mark right hind the eye ?
looks like a stone shot . awesome

second , your fish looks like the filets were really filling in and had some mass .
I'm talking ratio of head to meat .
when they get about 8 lbs they seem to be all head , like a growth spurt , then slowly the filets fill in to catch up .
I was wondering if by determining at what size a hog fish has the highest ratio of what is called in the fish market "yield" .
and compare the SE Atlantic hog species to the Gulf species .

Seems to me it seems to be just before they go into the male phase , at 14-15 inches .
any comments , anybody ?
