HOLD the 2016 BBO DATES - The Official 2016 BBO Rules Discussion Thread
LATER EDIT - SEE THE FINAL RULES HERE:
http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=189566 The Big Bang! Open is set for the weekend of July 22-24, 2016. We are returning to that same wonderful new venue as last year - the Moose Lodge in Palm Beach Gardens which is very close to I95 and the Florida Turnpike. The registration process will start soon, but in the meantime, weighmaster Captain Randy Docks, MC Captain Billy Black and I have been revising the rules which are attached in DRAFT form. Please take a look at them and give us your comments and questions by posting in this thread. The main changes compared to last year is removing Warsaw Grouper as follows: GROUPER CATEGORY - Species of legal Grouper eligible for this category might include Black Grouper, Gag Grouper, Yellowfin Grouper, Yellowmouth Grouper, etc. as long as they are legal to harvest in federal or state waters where you are hunting. However, due to the very limited state waters area where Warsaw Grouper may exist and in the spirit of regional shooting opportunity fairness, Warsaw Grouper may NOT be harvested for the Big Bang Open. The Florida single-day possession rules at the weigh-in location in Palm Beach County apply to other groupers. For example, you may weigh in only one black or gag grouper. Glad to see the permit/AP issue of previous years clarified and no more questioning of warsaw either. Looking forward to this years tournament.

I may be reading it wrong and in that case disregard, but from the way I read it permit and APs aren't allowed as a jack but are allowed as a wild card? Why not just make the jack category open to all members of the carangidae family?

WG, thx for the feedback. we did that due to different laws/closures on different coasts. I'll go back and look at it again.

Tony, the final rules and registration forms are here at this link.
http://www.spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=189566 Any porgy of the multiple species of porgy that you harvest must be a minimum 14 inches for purposes of the BBO weigh-in. We are trying to be consistent with the triggerfish 14 inch minimum as described in the final rules. Tony |

Yes, any species of Porgy can be weighed in... but please keep in mind that any porgies weighed in, regardless of species, must be a minimum of 14" overall length to match the current regulations pertaining to both Red Porgy and Triggerfish.

Is it ok to have both scuba divers and a free diver on the same boat?
