Tides and Viz
Whats up guys? I've made a few trips over to Sarasota/Bradenton area over the past couple weeks, and though I'm pretty new to spearing, I've managed to put out some decent sheeps and snaps. With that being said, I have a question related to the incoming and outgoing tides as it relates to water clearity.
I generally spear slack high and slack low tide, but will I find better viz with an incoming tide or an outgoing tide?? Overall the viz has been less than 5ft, at times being no more than 1ft. Am I missing something hear? What is the ideal time for the best viz possible? Thanks guys!! |

Re: Tides and Viz
In coming high tide will provide the best visibility.....out going tide will produce the worst visibility.

Re: Tides and Viz
So maybe that's what I've been doing wrong. Are you generally only spearing slacks or incoming tides too??

Re: Tides and Viz
I believe from your description, you are spearing bridges. Only time I'm under bridges is if I'm hunting for stone crab and 5' of visibility is more than enough. Due to the current, I try to get set up just as the current is dying down on the incoming tide and dive slack tide....you'll know it's time to get out when the current starts to pick up and the amount of particulate floating by increases.
Generally, the further offshore you go the less the tidal changes effect things and that varies with distance north to south of inlet/pass as well. |

Re: Tides and Viz
Yes, I mainly dive bridges around the Sarasota area as I don't have access to a boat.
