Hobie Adventure Island?

Has anyone ever been on one of thies? they look like a great way to get out, and i keep thinking about all the options for storing gear -guns on it. not to mention a stable platform.

Re: Hobie Adventure Island?

LB--no problem bro, but you know how slow I type

Killingcarp--I first bought a Hobie Adventure Island for freediving spearfishing here in Miami area years ago.
Then it was like $3k with roller furling sail and both outriggers.
I still have it to this day on top of my pick up, minus the outriggers and sail which I sold last fall cause I never used the sail/outriggers since I moved up here from the Keys.
The Mirage Drive is fast and pretty much maintence free, as long as you don't SURF the Hobie into the beach on top of a 6f wave
The Hobie is now my loaner / back up yak because:

"SCUPPER PRO GIVES YOU WINGS"

Hobie new==$3500.
Scupper new (if u can find 1)== $750. 54lbs
60lbs WITHOUT sail,Mirage drive
will not turn well with Mirage-------------SP will turn within itsself
anchor line an spear float lines get
hung up on Mirage and rudder------------SP smooth bottom
will not back up-------------------------SP goes as fast back as forward
will only fit maybe a 4f speargun inside----SP my 6f + yak paddle will easily go down INSIDE, +140RA, +ALL my gear including long fins + cooler
etc, etc, etc. Just my humble opinion after 150 days of spearin so far in 2009
Hope this helps

Re: Hobie Adventure Island?

I dive NorCal from my Adventure. I don't have the sailing gear. The mirage drive is great for cruising long distance.
